Pinnacol Assurance Put Care to Work in 2021

                               

Denver, CO (WorkersCompensation.com) - Last year, Pinnacol Assurance put care to work for Colorado through their compassionate care for injured workers, grantmaking, scholarships, volunteerism, sustainability efforts, and championing diversity, equity and inclusion. Pinnacol also found ways to respond to community needs in real time by donating to the Boulder King Soopers shooting victims, Food Bank of the Rockies and the Community Foundation of Boulder County Marshall Fire fund. For the third year in a row, Pinnacol was recognized as one of Colorado’s 50 most community-minded companies.

We’re grateful to all the Pinnacol employees who volunteered, donated, organized and supported our efforts to care for Colorado in 2021.”

Grantmaking and emergency philanthropy 
In 2021, Pinnacol invested $507,000 in grants to programs in employee health and safety, rehabilitative health, economic vitality and workforce development.

Many of our local communities faced hardship in 2021, and Pinnacol responded. Employees diverted some team-building budgets to support the Boulder King Soopers shooting victims and Food Bank of the Rockies, providing 16,000 meals to Colorado families in need. Pinnacol also donated $100,000 to the Community Foundation of Boulder County Marshall Fire fund.

Pinnacol Foundation scholarships 
The Pinnacol Foundation awarded $347,150 in scholarships to 75 students across Colorado for the 2021-2022 academic year. Each year, the Foundation provides scholarships to students whose parents have been seriously injured or killed in work-related accidents, regardless of insurance carrier. Since 2000, the Foundation has awarded $6 million in scholarships to nearly 650 students across Colorado. 

Volunteering and employee giving 
Through their employee-led volunteer program, Pinnacol in Action, employees volunteered virtually, and when possible, in person, with organizations including Florence Crittenton Services, Denver Health Newborns in Need, Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado and more. In total, Pinnacol volunteered 1,150 hours in 2021.

Through their annual employee giving program, Pinnacol team members donated $137,634 to nonprofits close to their hearts, from animal shelters to environmental stewardship organizations to food pantries. Pinnacol matched their donations, making a total impact of $272,528.

Diversity, equity and inclusion
With a commitment to fighting systemic racism and expanding opportunities for all, Pinnacol’s DEI Advisory Council and Board of Directors led the launch of their DEI strategy, including equitable hiring and promotion practices, an employee-belonging survey and resource groups, and a supplier diversity program. As charter members of Colorado Companies Uniting Against Racism, Colorado Inclusive Economy and Prosper Colorado, they publicly report their data on key hiring, promotion and supplier indicators.

Sustainability 
When COVID-19 kept Pinnacol’s offices empty, they minimized their footprint — completing a xeric landscaping project and turning off irrigation systems and appliances — earning a 90 EnergyStar rating score for their LEED Gold-certified building. They also saved 697 kilograms in emissions by opening their electric car charging station to the public.
