Portland,ME (WorkersCompensation.com) – The MEMIC Group has added Rosanne Wess, CSP, CHST, to its Loss Control team as a Safety Management Consultant.
Wess comes to MEMIC with nearly a decade of occupational safety and health experience, with specialized skill in the construction, manufacturing, and healthcare industries, including as consultant to one of the largest construction general contractors on the East Coast focusing on marine construction and infrastructure.
Most recently, she worked for Maine’s only Level One trauma center as an occupational safety industrial hygienist, handling Covid-19 response and construction safety oversight.
MEMIC Group Loss Control Vice President Maryann Hoff said Wess adds unique, valuable skills at an important juncture for the company.
“Rose and I have collaborated over the last several years reigniting the Maine Chapter of American Society of Safety Professionals, so I know she will be a great resource to our policy holders and the MEMIC Team,” Loss Control Manager Alexis Flink said. “Based on her experience in the field, as well as her passion for learning and continuously improving safety processes, we are thrilled to have her skill set working for MEMIC policyholders.”
Wess earned her Bachelor of Science in Safety Science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is also a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, and a certified Lead Inspector and Lead Risk Assessor within the State of Maine.
Her past work includes experience as occupational safety industrial hygienist for Maine Medical Center, Maine’s largest healthcare organization, where she led Covid response efforts including the standup of multiple testing and assessment sites; safety coordinator for Compounding Solutions based in Lewiston, Maine, where she helped build and maintain the company safety program; and safety specialist with Cianbro Corporation, of Pittsfield, Maine, one of the largest contractors in New England, where she ensured compliance with all company policies, safety regulations, and environmental regulations.
“It is so imperative that employers are able to recruit and retain their workforce, now more than ever before,” Wess said. “For me, that boils down to two things: keeping your existing employees happy and healthy, and differentiating yourself enough to attract new, prospective employees.
“One way we can do that is by creating a safe work environment that allows people to thrive, not just survive,” she said. “Together, we can work to strengthen the workplace safety culture with our policyholders and create a healthy, more productive environment people are proud to be part of.”
Wess joins a Loss Control staff that’s helped scores of MEMIC policyholders reduce the number and severity of injuries to their workers, mitigate risks, and stay competitive in their industries. The department is led by Maryann Hoff, a 17-year insurance industry veteran who was appointed MEMIC’S Vice President of Loss Control and Safety in August.
Wess resides in southern Maine, with her wife, Laura, and dog, Meru.
