Charlottte,NC (WorkersCompensation.com) - The N.C. Department of Labor (NCDOL) named Bordeaux Construction Co. as a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) participant during a ceremony held Thursday, Aug. 4 on the campus of Sandhills Community College. Bordeaux recently completed additions to Kennedy Hall and constructed new labs and classrooms for the college’s nursing program.
The ceremony kicked off with a tour of the project site, followed by lunch in Kennedy Hall’s Clement Dining Room. As keynote speaker of the event, Labor Commissioner Josh Dobson congratulated Bordeaux Construction Co. on successfully completing its first SHARP-designated project. The construction SHARP is designed for worksites and projects with effective, comprehensive safety and health programs, making them leaders in employee protection.
“It’s exciting when a worksite receives SHARP Construction status for the first time,” Commissioner Dobson said. “Not only did Bordeaux successfully complete this project, but each contractor and subcontractor were able to send their workers home safe and healthy at the end of the day. Each time we award SHARP status, it demonstrates the benefits of partnerships between government and private industry.”
Bordeaux Construction Co. Safety Director Scotty Edwards praised the employees and subcontractors responsible for the success of receiving their first SHARP designation. Bordeaux Construction Co. also plans to add a second SHARP project to its list of achievements in the near future.
“Five and a half years ago, Bordeaux Construction decided to take the next step and hire their first safety director to develop a safety program,” Edwards said. “With the hard work and dedication from Bordeaux employees and subcontractors, we have completed our first SHARP project and we are entering into another one on a new project in Tar Heel, N.C. I could not be any prouder of our employees.”
Bordeaux Construction was founded in 1977 by Joseph and Agnes Bordeaux, with their sons Tom and David Bordeaux joining the team to expand operations. Bordeaux has entered the third generation of the family business with Tom’s son, Blair Bordeaux, being named president in 2016. Ben Warren, a North Carolina native and graduate of N.C. State, began working for Bordeaux Construction in 2006 and was named vice president in 2015.
Bordeaux Construction is headquartered in Morrisville and completes projects across North Carolina. In the past 30 years, Bordeaux Construction has completed over $1 billion worth of construction projects.
