Charlotte, NC (WorkersCompensation.com) – A 17-year-old Jack in the Box worker is dead after he was killed by two masked men, one of several employees killed at work this week.

The employee was killed by two masked men, Charlotte police officials said. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officials said they were called to the fast food restaurant on March 29 for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon with injury. When officers arrive they found the 17-year-old employee dead at the scene.

Police have not publicly identified the teen, but have said they thought the killing was a targeted attack.

That same day, in Clarksdale, Miss., a grocery store employee was shot to death during an attempted robbery, police said.

Just before 5 p.m., police were called to the D&T Supermarket on North State Street for a robbery. Clarksdale Police officials said an armed man went into the store and aimed a gun at the employee behind the counter. Before he fled he building, the robbery shot the employee several times.

The employee was taken to a nearby hospital, officials said, where he later died.

The shooting spurred violence from the community. Clarksdale Mayor Chuck Espy asked the city to stay calm in a Facebook video post.

"It hits home when it's in your backyard, and I'd like peace in our city," Espy said. "I'm asking God to cover the City of Clarksdale. I'm asking for violence to stop."

In Northwest D.C., a dispensary employee was killed during an armed robbery, officials said.

On March 27, the dispensary employee was killed around 2:57 p.m. Officials with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said two people entered the dispensary in the 5100 block of Georgia Avenue and demanded property and money.

During the robbery, one of the suspects fired shots, hitting an employee before taking money and leaving the scene. Philip Prendergast, 41, of Silver Spring, Md., was shot and taken to a nearby hospital, officials said, where he later died. Video captured the suspects and police continue to look for them.

In Illinois, on March 25, a Walmart employee was stabbed at work.

Officials said an 18-year-old Rockford, Ill., Walmart employee was killed after another man attacked him. The worker, whose identity was not released, was killed just after 6 p.m.

According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, police officers responded to the store. When they arrived, they found the young Walmart employee suffering from a life-threatening knife wound. Investigators said the victim was on the job with the attack happened.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where they later died.

“We’re devastated to learn that one of our associates has died following a violent attack inside our Rockford, IL store," Walmart said in a statement. "We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and will continue providing our associates with the support they need. Actions like this are inexcusable, and we’re grateful to law enforcement for their swift action in arresting the presumed attacker. We’ll continue helping them in every possible way throughout their investigation."

Officials said it was not immediately known if the two men knew each other.
