Montpelier, VT (WorkersCompensation.com) -- Back in July, Vermont upped its medical mileage reimbursement rate from 58.5 cents per mile to 62.5 cents per mile.

So what does the Green Mountain State require for medical mileage reimbursement? The following breaks it down.

Basic rule: An injured worker required to travel for treatment, or to attend an employer's independent medical examination, shall be paid mileage beyond the distance normally traveled to the workplace.

Example:

  • An employee is required to travel 40 miles for physical therapy.
  • The distance normally traveled round trip to her place of work is 20 miles.
  • The employee would be reimbursed for 20 miles, which is the difference between the 20 work miles and the 40 therapy miles, at the current rate in effect at the time of the physical therapy visit.

What about pharmacies? Mileage reimbursement is not provided for the travel to and from pharmacies.

How rates have changed over time: This chart breaks down how the rates have changed since 1996.
