Nurse case managers and adjusters are in demand. In this article, I share some tips to help you stand out when seeking a new position.
- Update your resume. Make it easy to read. Share what you have been able to accomplish in previous roles. Show your value. This is a time to toot your own horn!
- If you know people in the companies you are looking into, send them a note and ask if they can be a reference for you. Today, it is who you know that counts!
- Keep your eyes and ears open for new opportunities. It is always good to look for a job when you have a job.
- Network, network, and network in the areas you want to enter. If you are not on LinkedIn, sign up and make a profile highlighting your achievements.
- Join your professional organization and start attending meetings so you can meet others in the field to learn what is happening in your industries.
- Look outside the box. Is it time for a change in the field? Case Managers have many transferable skills. Don’t be afraid to take a risk.
- Look at the job description for what areas you are looking into. Do you meet them? If not, what do you need to make yourself eligible? Start working on these things, as they will help you in the long run.
- Think about what is important to you. Where are you with your salary? Time off? Work from home or work in the office? What is your wish list for your dream job? Is travel involved? If so, how much?
- Consider retaining a mentor or joining a Mastermind Group to move to independent practice. They will help you focus on what is essential and hold you accountable for things you need to do.
- Finally, be prepared to move quickly if you are called!
What tips would you add that you have found helpful when looking for your dream job? Drop me a note, and I can use it in a future column. You can reach me at allewellyn48@gmail.com.
