Spring Lake, NC (WorkersCompensation.com) – New details are emerging after a 15-year-old Subway employee was shot over a messed-up order earlier this month.

The attack is one of several on foodservice and hospitality workers, officials said.

In Spring Lake, N.C., police said the Subway worker was allegedly shot by Alisa Reed. Police Chief Errol Jarman called the shooting “a senseless act of violence” that left a child and her family healing.

According to officials, the incident occurred at the Subway on Murchison Road on March 12 when the 37-year-old Reed got into a verbal altercation with a number of Subway workers, saying they got her order wrong. The 15-year-old victim was told to lock the door behind Reed, who then pulled out a gun and started shooting. One of Reed’s shots hit the girl in the face. Officials said two other customers were inside the store at the time.

The employee is currently at UNC Chapel Hill, officials said and is expected to recover.

Police said the girl is currently at UNC Chapel Hill and is expected to recover.

A GoFundMe account set up for the teen and her family said the girl was not even an hour into her shift when she was shot at point blank range, leaving her permanently disabled.

“My daughter was airlifted from Cape Fear to UNC-Chapel Hill, where she has endured multiple surgeries. Although this will be a long road to recovery, we thank God for her life and that she is still here with us,” the victim’s mother said in the fundraising request. “With everything going on, and as her primary parent, I will be out of work due to her extended stay at the hospital while she recovers, as well as for the multiple outpatient therapies that she will need. My daughter literally has to relearn how to do some of the simple things that we take for granted every day, such as learning how to eat and walk again. Due to the nature of her injuries, she will have to receive a few more surgeries and therapies, including but not limited to physical and occupational therapy, as well as mental health, due to this traumatic experience.”

As of March 24, the fund had raised a little over $7,000.

Police said Reed was charged with attempted first- degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and inflict serious injury, discharging a weapon into an occupied property, and communicating threats. Reed was arrested and placed in custody at the Cumberland County Detention Center and assessed a secured bond of $300,000. She is due in court on March 31.

Subway refused to comment on the incident.

In San Antonio, Texas, a shooting between employees left one worker dead and a restaurant on lockdown.

Officials said the shooting at Café Ole, on the River Walk in San Antonio, was an “isolated incident.”

On March 16, police in San Antonio were called to the restaurant at 1 a.m., for a call of a shooting. The incident left 47-year-old David Alvarado dead of multiple gunshot wounds. Officials said the shooter, identified as 20-year-old Talano Garcia, approached Alvarado and shot him in the head.

First responders declared Alvarado dead at the scene. Garcia was arrested and charged with murder.

The restaurant said it was cooperating with the authorities.

“We experienced a recent event involving an altercation between 2 employees. It occurred in the back of the house and did not involve any customers or other employees,” Scott Reed, general manager of the restaurant said in a statement. “This was an isolated incident and nothing similar has ever occurred in our 30+ year history. The safety of our customers and employees is of utmost importance. We are working with our staff to help them through this difficult period.”

And in Arkansas, a man has been charged with shooting a hotel employee over loud music.

Officials in Mountain Home, Ark., said Gary Frans was charged with first-degree criminal attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault after the March 16 incident.

Mountain Home Police said they responded to a shooting at the Mountain Home Inn. When they arrived, they were directed to Frans’ room, where they found the man with a gun at his feet. Investigators said two witnesses with the cleaning crew said they were cleaning a room next door to Frans when a front desk employee walked down the hall to give them instructions. Prior to the front desk worker’s approach, Frans had put in a complaint about the music the cleaning crew was playing.

According to court documents, the front desk worker told Frans he needed to return to his room and “mind his own business.” Frans instead pointed his gun at the victim. Witnesses said the victim told Frans three times, “Don’t shoot me.” Later, the witnesses said they heard three gunshots.

Police said they believe Frans was heavily intoxicated at the time. A breathalyzer test at the jail for him registered at .27, more than three times the legal limit.

Frans is being held at the Baxter County Jail on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 7.
