San Antonio, Texas (WorkersCompensation.com) – In the wake of the Louisville bank shooting last week that left five bank employees dead, violent attacks on employees continued this past week as a number of employees were reported to have been shot on the job.
In San Antonio, Texas, a bar employee trying to break up a fight was shot for his efforts.
Police in San Antonio said an employee of a bar on the South Side was shot on April 15 around 2 a.m.
According to police reports, a fight broke out inside of the bar and the employee intervened as a way to diffuse the situation. Unfortunately, police said, the argument escalated and one of the two men involved in the fight pulled out a gun and opened fire. The gun fire hit two people, the employee being one of them.
The employee was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, the police said. The second man who was also involved in the fight, was also shot, police said. He was treated on the scene and released.
Also on Saturday, a Detroit employee was shot and killed in a customer dispute.
Detroit police said the fatality happened when a dispute over someone cutting in line ended in gunfire.
Detroit Police Chief James White said an employee in the store tried to intervene, but the dispute escalated and a gun eventually came out. The shooter shot a store employee who was transported to a local hospital where they later died.
The shooter had walked out of the store after the shooting, but local police were patrolling outside and were able to arrest him.
The shooting in Detroit comes as the city was enforcing a curfew because of so many shootings in the city.
On Friday, an argument between a former employee and a current employee at an airport in Cleveland, Texas, ended in gun fire and death.
Cleveland Police said the two employees worked at a company located at the Cleveland Municipal Airport. The former employee, a 20-year-old, came back to the airport for an unknown reason, police said.
Once there, he got into an argument with the current employee, a man in his 30s, police said. When the argument escalated, the former employee returned to his car and grabbed a shotgun, then returned to the argument and shot the current employee several times.
The current employee was declared dead at the scene. The suspect was eventually captured and arrested by the Colorado County Sheriff’s office. The men’s identities were not released.
On Wednesday, an employee was killed while she was working at a Burger King in Phoenix, police said.
Police said they were called to the scene for a gun shot and found Maria Ledesma-Ramirez, 25, shot to death outside of the fast food restaurant. Another employee of the restaurant was injured in the shooting and taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Police arrested Ramirez’s ex-boyfriend after reviewing surveillance and speaking with witnesses. Gerardo Vazquez-Alvarez, 29, was arrested south of the restaurant. Police said he admitted his involvement in the shooting. He was charged with multiple counts, including first-degree murder, attempted murder.
On the same day, a store employee in Fresno, California was shot.
Fresno Police said they responded around 10 p.m. on Wednesday to a call of shots fired at the MB Fashion store on Fresno Street. Police said when they arrived, they found the victim, a 19-year-old man who worked at the store, with multiple gun shot wounds.
Police said a man had entered the store earlier in the day and asked the employee if he was gang affiliated, then left. Hours later, police said, the same man came back and approached the victim, shooting him several times. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
On Tuesday, a store clerk in Tacoma, Washington, was shot during an armed robbery.
Tacoma Police said dispatchers responded to a call of someone shot around 10:40 a.m. at a local smoke shop. According to reports, multiple suspects had entered the store and tried to rob the store.
In the course of the robbery, the store clerk, 26, was shot and wounded. The employee was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Police said the employee was in stable condition.
