What is Physiatry?

A Brief History of Physiatry

The practice of physiatry gained increased recognition during World Wars I and II as the soldiers returned home with injuries and wounds from the wars. Many were amputees and were provided prosthetic care and rehabilitation by a physiatrist. Continuing to grow, in 2013 the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPM&R) celebrated its 75th anniversary.
