Movers & Shakers: 7 Questions for New Ametros VP Jayson Gallant

Boston, MA (WorkersCompensation.com) -- Recently, Ametros created a new role, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and looked to someone with experience in the company to fill it. Promoting former Senior Strategic Account Executive Jayson Gallant into the new position, Ametros opted for the internal candidate to help build on the company's growth.

WorkersCompensation.com caught up with Gallant in a phone interview to see how the new job was going and get his perspective on Ametros, the industry, and the future of workers' compensation.

Here's what we asked and what Gallant had to say.

1. What experiences have shaped your professional journey that you feel will be most helpful in the new role? Prior to Ametros, I was in the food and beverage industry. I went to school for marketing and had some internships that I learned from. One thing I knew early on was to seek really great mentors. Over the past seven years and still today, I’ve been able to ask for mentorship. You’re never too far along in your career to learn. And that's important right now because there's an older workforce that’s reporting to a younger workforce and the younger work force wants to skip the in between in their career developm. When I've been at a point in my career where I’ve wondered whether I could continue to grow, speaking up, mentors, especially at Ametros, have agreed to help.

2. What has been the biggest challenge you've faced in the new role so far and how have you approached it? The biggest challenge is that with COVID and even prior, it’s reporting to someone new. i think that it’s getting used to it because of working from home, the people you work with became your friends. I knew that I needed something different to launch my career, but it would be arrogant for me think I could sit in a VP role with nothing to learn. Also, it’s the first time there’s been this role with the company, but in account management, I manifested a lot of relationships over the years. Sometimes products and sales are really siloed, but I think as we continue to grow, roles like this will kind of manifest. 

3. Why are strategic partnerships so important in the workers' compensation industry? You get labeled as vendor, but at the same time, we have vendors, and you really grow as a company, by bringing on really great parnters. So when we say strategic partnerships, it ranges from there helping  they are helping us and we are helping them, all the way up to our clients. We really want to help them. And it's been successful because we used to go to conferences and set up booths to get our name out there, and now we are at the point where we don't need to have a booth anymore, so managing those parnterships is really important.

4. What do you see as the mission of your job day in and day out? There will still be managing C suites of large scale carriers and employers. I always want to interface with our clients because that’s how we know what’s going on with our clients and partners. Anytime you can save money, we want to find the way for our clients. So how can we get from 10  percent of the Medicare set asides to 50 or 60 percent? Maybe it's working with Medicare or HHS. Or is it working at the state level with the judges approving settlements every day? To get feedback, what I like to do is to understand the bigger picture overall. We know comp is down because more people are working form home, but still, what initiatives are our clients doing? JWe really want to be focused at what we are good at and grow those bits and pieces. For example, we were really good at managing Medicare dollars, so we went to setting up a banking product for non-Mmedicare dollars. Another area is how do we use our data and how do we create predictive modeling to benefit our clients?

5. Where do you see the future of Ametros going? We want to really be a household name and we are in a position to do that now. We have a strong board that supports that, so we are in a great position ot make professional administration a common practice because that's where the future will be. We will be using data and analytics to make better settlement decisions for our clients and make the marketplace more aware of the reality of settlements and cost efficiency.

6. What's the best part of your job? It's the people I get to work with. Some of the clients I work with have become really good friends, and some of my coworkers have become my best friends. As an example, I was at a conference a while back, and I had to leave the conference because my 16-month-old daughter had a bad cough and fever. After I left, I was inundated with texts checking on her. You come to see that the next part of your career is knowing people and making life long friends. I've been fortunate to work with mentors who have been well-versed and accomplished.

7. What else would you like the industry to know? The main thing to understand is that behind what we’re doing is to support the injured worker. The other side of it is the injured worker that’s had this life altering experience. One of my missions  is to communicate to the marketplace that beyond the numbers of injured workers, there are people behind those numbers. The huge benefit of our job is that we are helping people. I learned early on my career that all these people are my coworkers. Injured workers are just like you some of them have serious injuries. So, it's easy to get lost in the number, but it's real people's lives and it has a human dimension.
