Do You Know the Rule? Ohio Reimbursement for First Fill of Outpatient Medications

Columbus, OH (WorkersCompensation.com) -- Recently, Ohio updated its rule governing the first fill of outpaient medications. Part of that rule covers limitations on the reimbursement of outpatient medication. 

So what curbs does the Buckeye State have on medication reimbursements? Here's a breakdown:

Quantity

  • Approval for reimbursement of medications under the first fill program is limited to quantity limits that depend on the medication at issue.
  • No refills will be approved.

Drug Classes

  • Except for antivirals, antiretrovirals, and antibiotics, approval for reimbursement of medications under the first fill program are limited to one drug per therapeutic drug class.

Compounded Perscriptions

  • Extemporaneous compounded prescribtions are not eligible for remimbursement under the first fill program.
