Do You Know the Rule? Ohio Injured Worker Reimbursement Rates for Travel Expenses

Columbus, OH (WorkersCompensation.com) -- Ohio recently upped the rates for medical mileage reimbrusement from 52 cents to 58 cents. But what other requirements does the Buckeye State impose regarding travel expenses? The following chart provides highlights.

Deadline for request

Requests for reimbursement must be made within two years of the travel date

If the employer requests an employee to appear for a medical examination by a physician of the employer’s choice

There is no minimum mileage requirement for car mileage reimbursement for employer-requested exams

Travel by car

A worker must travel more than 45 miles round trip

The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation must authorize in advance travel in excess of more than 400 miles round trip

Travel by other modes of transportation

There is no mileage requirement, but workers must submit proof of necessity for the type of travel

Meals

When travel is more than 12 but less than 24 hours, meal reimbursement is 75 percent of the per diem rate, $44.25

When the period of travel includes an overnight stay, meal reimbursement is:

  • The day of departure is 75 percent of the per diem rate, $44.25
  • Full days of travel are 100 percent of the per diem rate, $59
  • The last day of travel is 75 percent of the per diem rate, $44.25

Lodging

Actual cost up to $96 per night, plus applicable tax
