Memphis Settlements: The Sequel

As Top Gun: Maverick has shown, sometimes a sequel can be a huge hit and even more successful than the original. We’re hoping for the same with this article.

After publishing yesterday’s blog about an adjustment in the Memphis settlement process, we learned that some misunderstanding occurred in the way the article was read. So, let’s try again, for clarity.

Memphis will accept settlements on Tuesdays from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. and from 1 until 2:30 p.m. On Thursday, Memphis will accept settlements from 8:30 until 11:30. The limit is 20 settlements in the mornings, and nine on Tuesday afternoon. You will NOT have a specific time assigned. You may arrive during the time period and the Court will take your settlement on a first-come, first-served basis. BUT, you can secure your settlement hearing ONLY by sending in your request as you presently do.

As is the Memphis practice presently, settlement documents for claims involving permanent total disability benefits, the death of the employee, and closure of medical benefits must be submitted to WCCourt.Memphis@tn.gov no fewer than two business days before the approval. For other settlements, you simply file the Petition for Benefit Determination for settlement approval at the above address to secure the settlement session.

The same process applies to the newly-opened Lauderdale County settlements beginning in July.
