Portland, ME (WorkersCompensation.com) - The MEMIC Group has hired three experienced professionals to regional underwriter posts.
Heidi L. Carter has been hired as Senior Production Underwriter in eastern and downstate New York, responsible for renewals and new business; Bryant O. Turner as Senior Production Underwriter in the Southeast Region; and Matthew Raynard as an Express Production Underwriter in the New England Marketplace, targeting new business accounts under $50,000 in premium.
Carter has spent a majority of her career specializing in workers’ compensation and comes to MEMIC with nearly three decades of experience handling multi-lines, including claims and risk management.
Her past positions include seven years as an account executive for First Cardinal, managing workers’ compensation group self-insured trusts in New York State; and 10 years as Senior Underwriter managing numerous territories in New York, including New York City and Long Island, for Amtrust Financial.
“Heidi takes pride in building relationships and strives to write targeted profitable business, so we’re thrilled to have her join MEMIC,” Northeast Territory Manager Jim Keck said. “New York is a very important state for MEMIC and we look forward to seeing her grow it further with our partner agents.”
“I am honored to represent such an amazing company who puts safety and commitment first,” Carter said. “MEMIC does it the best from every position and offers extraordinary customer service from every department. MEMIC treats their own employees with such respect, and we convey that same message to our policyholders.”
She earned a degree in business administration from State University of New York at Canton and is currently working toward her Workers’ Compensation Professional designation. She lives in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., with her husband and children, and enjoys hiking, boating, traveling, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Bryant O. Turner comes to MEMIC with nearly two decades of experience in financial and underwriting roles, including as business development underwriter for ICW Group Insurance Companies in San Diego, Calif.; inside sales executive and senior account manager for Travelers Insurance Company in Chantilly, Va.; allied healthcare underwriter for Hanover Insurance Group in Reston, Va.; and other underwriting roles throughout the Southeast.
“We’re very excited to have Bryant join the team,” said MEMIC Territory Manager for the Mid-Atlantic region, Margaret Templeton. “His knowledge of the region, along with his capabilities gained over years of writing business, will complement our growing team as we expand.”
Turner earned a bachelor’s degree in leadership and management from the University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, Va. He lives in Fredericksburg with his wife and 1-year-old daughter.
Matthew Raynard began his career at Travelers Insurance as a Subrogation Specialist. After five years at Travelers, Matt transitioned to underwriting at First Comp Markel, where he wrote workers’ compensation accounts and was promoted twice: first to Strategic Partner Underwriter and then to Senior Strategic Partner Underwriter, helping build First Comp Markel’s Northeast book from a few million to over $12 million in just two years. Later, he moved to AmeriTrust Insurance as a Senior Underwriter before joining Method Insurance.
“Everywhere Matt’s worked, he has done a great job interacting and building relationships with agents and brokers,” Keck said. “He’ll bring a high level of energy in relaying the MEMIC value proposition to all our partner agents and look to grow our New England footprint in small business. We are very excited to have him become part of our Northeast regional team with responsibility for handling agents in our five New England states.”
Born and raised in New England, Raynard earned a degree in sociology and criminal justice from the University of Massachusetts at Boston in 2008. He enjoys time spent outdoors playing golf and exercising, and resides in Swansea, Mass., with his wife, Aimee, their toddler, and their Yorkie.
