I,am in Illinois and Monday morning I had to go to my clinic, My neighbor called the clinic to see if I had arrived as she was worried because of my driving myself and my eyes. They came out from the office and told me she had called, but because of the HIPPA laws, they wouldn't even tell her if I was there....... I know when I worked in the hospital and someone called asking about a patient we weren't allowed to tell them if they had been addmitted, without the patients permission. we would ask the persons name, put the caller on hold and ask the patient if they wanted to speak to the person . then if yes we could transfer the call to the patient......So yes there are many that abide by HIPPA and others aren't as strict.
