Gabapentin
Me again, in Montana
Here is the situation. Last month my surgeon put me on Gabapentin 100mg one to two every 6 hours. So I refilled today and the label says 1 -3 capsules every 6 hours. So I am thinking, ok, he is increasing since it seems to work a bit. Then I go to take my dose tonight and find that the capsules are much larger than the ones I had before. I checked the bottle itself, not the prescription label, and find that these capsules are 300mg. Obviously I am thinking something is wrong so I didn't take them. If I had taken the 3 300mg....900mg, what would have happened? I only weigh 110lbs.

RE: Gabapentin
This is my experiance being put on 600 mgs to start, right after I took the pill, my foot and leg started to hurt a lot more started feeling different pain than before, my mood swings were really bad, sharp pains from the right side of my head by my ear went up to the middle of my head, my husband told me to call the foot specialist office i did told them what was going on they said to stop taking them, but that was starting at 1 tablet every 8 hours, 600mg, I had a bad experiance like I said I would get ahold of your doctor and tell him how you interpeted the directions tell them your concerns, make sure your going to be alright that's the most important thing I wish you the best have a nice day.

Life is like the ocean, it can be calm one minute and the next a wave will knock you off your feet, it's up to you to get back up and take control.

RE: Gabapentin
The therapeutic dose of gabapentin is in the 1700 to 3200 mg per day range and the standard method of treatment is to increase the strength of the pill over time and dose it at 8 hour intervals. Check with your Dr's office.

As to what would have happened if you took 90 mg all at once ? Sleep and stomach cramps mostly. see the side effect profile you were given.
It won't kill you but you might wish you were dead.

RE: Gabapentin
Yes, it is a medication that starts out low, and does get increased.

The strange issue of it's side effects; Are mostly like this;

The medication gets increased slowly. Monitor the dose each week or day between increase dose. No side effects good, at what dose.

When increased to an allowable amount till side effects start, at what dose.

Then it is backed down to the last known dose with no side effect, and that is going to be the right dose amount.

This was told to me by my doctor when they had me on this medication.

But, also, you need to contact the doctor's office, and make sure the increase is what was ordered. Even call and ask the Pharmacy, to see if this is what your doctor ordered up.

RE: Gabapentin
I was put on it exactly like Badboy....at 600 mg. I have relief and no side effects..at 900 mg. I have personality changes. I also agree that you should check with the pharmacy...changing from 100 mg. capsules to 300mg...you should have been told how to adjust it and that they were changed.

God is never late.

In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years.

RE: Gabapentin
Stupid question really. But I just called the pharmacy and it is their mistake. There was a different person there yesterday who helped with filling the prescriptions...hence the mistake. I did have to take the 300 mg last night and this a.m., and did feel ok apart from the stomach issues. I remember that is why I have had to stop taking other pain killers. The pain just shifted to another spot.

RE: Gabapentin
So your saying the pharmacy gave you the wrong prescription?

Be the last time I go there, and what are they going to do for discipline measures now for the reckless employee that could have KILLED someone. This you do need to ask, and have a right to know now. As they opened the door not you. This is just unexceptable to anyone, even the employer.

RE: Gabapentin
I took the meds back to the pharmacy yesterday and got the correct prescription. The pharmacist told me that years go by with not one mistake and then suddenly two in one day. The other mistake was underdosed, so that one was not so bad, but mine was and he admitted that. He is sorting out the employee big time. I have to admit when I was in there I noticed that it was not the usual woman who is there and this other girl...or woman...just didn't seem all together on top of the job. From now on I will be checking the doses before I leave.
