Topamax
Just wondering if anyone takes it and their experiences. My doctor did some blood test awhile back and I got the results today and he told me I had diabetes. He said he was going to give me topamax because it will one help with pain and two help me lose weight.
Anyone ever have that side effect from it?(losing weight that is?)

I have had capsulodesis scaphoid, capsulodesis lunotriquetral joint wrist, debridement of triangular fibrocartilage all in my right wrist and a tendon sheath release(that was just one surgery) & a lunotriquetral fusion Plus now a wrist fusion

I take 175 mg daily of Topamax for Epilepsy (It is a Seizure medication) and have lost 70 pounds in about a year and a half, most of the weight loss comes in the 1st year.

There are however other side effects to be aware of 1) it is referred to as Dopamax, makes you VERY forgetful! 2) Most all carbonated beverages will taste like crap, the only things i now drink carbonated are Sierra Mist and Fountain Pepsi 3) You will probably have tingling sensation in your extremities - mine tend to be in fingers, on my cheeks and around my nose.

You will probably get used 2 side effects within first 6 months, or you may not have them, depending on dosage.

Also, besides weight loss and nerve pain, Topamax is used off-label for Migraines.

Good luck with it.

RE: Topamax
Nothing yet for diabetes just found out I have it. Went to my doctors on Monday and just had some lab test done today. We will see what happens next.
My family doctor mentioned some shots to lose weight before trying meds, but he said if my glucose comes back high again meds might have to be the answer till I can lose about 20lbs. He said the shot would make me lose about 20lbs real fast. He said it is something to consider the only thing is insurance wont pay for it.

I have had the funny feeling in my fingers not long about a half hour.then it goes away. I don't know if this is a side effect of not but the last few mornings when I wake up and blow my nose, I have dried blood in my nose. I have never had that before.
I will keep you posted, should get my test results on Thursday

I have had capsulodesis scaphoid, capsulodesis lunotriquetral joint wrist, debridement of triangular fibrocartilage all in my right wrist and a tendon sheath release(that was just one surgery) & a lunotriquetral fusion Plus now a wrist fusion

RE: Topamax
cookie....what kind of shot is your Dr. talking about? I have never heard of anything that's one shot and you lose weight. I would love it. Put 40# on since DOI, meno, quit smoking and would love to lose evenhalf of it but being a diabetic makes it almost impossible. I had been diet controlled for 6 years nd just went on Metformin once a day. Numbers are back where they belong and I have lost that fatigued feeling. My daughter was prescribed Topamax last night for PMDD> Let me know howyour test results are.

God is never late.

RE: Topamax
I will. The shot just isn't one shot you have to have several shots. When he calls me to tell me my test results I will ask him about the shots. Cause I am really thinking about it. My numbers are all over the place. Even when I wake up they are high. I am always fatigued. Thought it was from the Zoloft or all the other medicines my doctor has tried. I feel like research....lol
I am glad I can talk to someone who understands how difficult it is to lose weight and not just cause food is good but because it is truly difficult even when we eat good...

I have had capsulodesis scaphoid, capsulodesis lunotriquetral joint wrist, debridement of triangular fibrocartilage all in my right wrist and a tendon sheath release(that was just one surgery) & a lunotriquetral fusion Plus now a wrist fusion

RE: Topamax
Sounds like me a couple of months ago. The metformin has really gotten my numbers under control and because of that the fatigue is gone. I'm wondering if your Dr. is talking about Byetta...which is a diabetic drug that the claim is helps you to lose weight....The one I'm on alos helps prevent weight gain...which is real common for diabetics and diabetic meds.

God is never late.
