 Settlement Offset
Hello all and happy holidays...
My case may be making the final turn before pulling into the station after nearly 3 1/2 years. I was injured and live in NY, I was wondering if my settlement can be offset by back taxes and Medicaid ? If so how can I find out if it will without ruffling any feathers. Im in a tough financial spot. I have not made either aware of my possible compensation settlement. Thank You in advance, Jo |

Your Attorney is the Best Bet for the Correct Answers. If You don't have Counsel, You May want to Speak to a CPA, They may have the Answers for You!!

Not sure..the only 2 things I remember them running in my state (PA) for mine and my husband's was back child support and Unemployment. If you had no income and were eligible for Medicaid I don't believe they're one of the agency's that you pay back when times change. The IRS is an entity all it's own. But as I said it wasn't something the WC courts looked into when I settled.

Taxes - no.
Medicaid-yes if they have lien on file. |
