Does anyone know if NY Workers Comp will pay for Acupuncture? I have found it
very beneficial in the past and would like to try it now for the neuropathy and pain I am experiencing with my L4/L5 extruded disc. Darkstar

RE: Acupuncture
I used acupuncture years ago with my first lumbar injury. I am in PA so I don't know about NY. I don't think this is individual to the state but more so to the Insurance carrier. You might want to first find out if there is an acupuncturist who takes WC and then talk to the carrier. I will say that the man I saw was first an MD and then was licensed to perform acupuncture. Best of luck.

RE: Acupuncture
They actually offer Acupuncture at my local hospital through the rehab department, so that's not a problem. I just need to find out if
comp will pay for it, it's $60. per session. Dark star crashes, pouring it's light into ashes. |

RE: Acupuncture
Hopefully they will pay for it....but I'd bet they don't.

RE: Acupuncture
If your work comp doctor recommends acupuncture as a treatment for your pain I guess the insurance company could argue that it's not a recommended treatment.
I've personally used acupuncture for years until my friend who administered it moved south. I bartered with her for treatments. For my knee, to alleviate the pain when passing kidney stones, for my oldest son when he had pneumonia to alleviate the chest pains when coughing. The kidney stone acupuncture and for my son were all paid for by my insurance. Can't hurt to ask, one could argue that acupuncture is not addicting and if it works everyone wins. Take care, BB |
