permanency awards
I live in NJ and was hurt at work. An attorney contacted me and told me that there is a claim called permancy award that I am entitled to. He states that this is not a lawsuit but an award given when you are hurt on the job. Has anyone heard of this?

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: permanency awards
many states pay permanent disability.
workers comp does not allow a civil lawsuit.
comp has it's own courts.
many employers treat it like a lawsuit when you retain an atty and file with the work comp court.
you can find out more about new jersey work comp benefits and permanent partial disability awards here
http://lwd.dol.state.nj.us/labor/wc/work...ex.html#PP
you have to have medical evidence of permanent disability and a rating as to how much disability the injury left you with.

RE: permanency awards
Are you saying an attorney called you, or are you saying your attorney called you?

If it's an attorney called you, then their looking for you to sign up with them, for Work Comp can be public information, an attorney may have picked up your information.

RE: permanency awards
He is a friend of my daughter, when she told him what happened he offered his help. He stated that this is a one time payment to those that where injured on the job and not a lawsuit. I am trying to find out if this is true as I am not interested in suing anybody.

RE: permanency awards
Thank you this was very helpful. I will continue to gather info on this. If in fact I am entitled to this, why wouldn't I take advantage of this. The attorney stated that not too many people know about this. It is NOT a lawsuit. I do not want to sue. It's an "entitlement"?

RE: permanency awards
permanent disability is part of the comp benefits.
anyone who's had a serious injury has received permanent disability.
workers compensation benefits are not a secret.
your doctor lets the carrier know when your condition reaches maximum improvement and you are ready to be rated for permanent disability.
