Finger nerve damage
First off, I have never had to deal with workers comp, and do not know much about it. With that said, at work the other day I sliced my finger while blocking cheese out with a large two-handed knife. The slice was fairly deep and required stitches. After cutting my finger i lost feeling in it. The doctor said that i cut deeply into the nerve and will most likely not regain feeling in that finger. Furthermore, I now have a soft spot right below the cut where if any pressure is applied (even so much as a slight bump) it sends a sharp pain down my hand and feels similar to getting a finger slammed in a door. I have a follow-up doctor's appointment in a couple days and will then ask if this "soft spot" will be permanent as well as the nerve damage. Until then, this has already prevented me from doing several parts of my job and if I can not complete every aspect of the job it threatens to stand in the way of a promotion I have been training for during the past 2 months. I am lost as to what (if anything) I am entitled to, and where to go from here. It seems to me to be silly considering its just a cut, but permanent nerve damage to a finger not only effects my job but also a focus of study at my university (guitar).
Any insight on this subject would be greatly appreciated. |

RE: Finger nerve damage
whether your state's work comp system has additional payments for permanent impairment depends on the laws. each state has their own program. without knowing your state there is not much information I can provide.

RE: Finger nerve damage
Oregon does provide permanent partial disability payments. Once recovery is complete your physician will supply a rating on the amount of impairment. the carrier will notify you of the benefits. It can be appealed or disputed if you disagree.
there is more information here http://wcd.oregon.gov/communications/pub...s/2876.pdf |
