ok all my forum sisters,sorry I didn't get back with you guys yesterday.The meeting was almost 3 hours long.There was 2 principles there, middle school and high school,The head of special ed,3 special ed teachers, 2 middle and one from high school.Speech therapist, Occupational therapist aide,2 case workers from developmental disabilities services division,myself and my ex husband even showed up.Also 2 regular classroom teachers.Right off the bat, the special ed director said that my son has definantly impacted the whole school system.They have never had a kid like him in their school system before.I told them that I called them way back in April that I was moving down here and had a young son 13, that was autistic, non verbal,and had developed severe behavior issues.Whwn I move down here in June, called the special ed director exactly 5 times between June and July.Took 3 manilla envelopes full of paperwork concerning my son to him towards the end of July and was told to come back at enrollment time.So in August they met my son.At the meeting we came up with a plan,they are to work with him half a day at the middle school and half a day at the high school.He will go to high school full time next year so we will slowly get him used to yet another school by letting him go half days there.The high school special ed teacher has to go to training to teach autistic kids.She is not qualified as of yet.I will keep track of that for sure.I have a doctor's app. friday to get him on a new drug friday, well that's a start, thank you bummer for all your help.And the rest of you for willing to bail me out if I got in trouble.You know I was thinking about us all fighting workmans comp and by me fighting a school system on behalf of my son, it was very similiar.Thank you guys so much for listening and for being my friend.Love you all Halftrak

Are you happy with the way things went?

Did you request a comprehensive evaluation?
If so the request needs put in writing, signed, and dated. The school must hold a meeting within 60 school days following the request.

Was the school psychologist at the meeting?

Children with autism are slow to transition, and remember that with the half day at the high school.

Yes they are going to evaluate him,He is due for a psych evaluation by december.Before he starts half days at the high school they are going to take him there several times like a field trip and get him used to going there and I am also going to go there both with him and without him. They said the last couple of days he has done so much better.I will keep close tabs on things though.Bummer, saw you called yesterday but I had to go to OKC after the meeting my brother broke down there and I went to pick him up then drove thru a bad storm, couldn't see nothing but the white lines on the highway.I will keep in touch with you and let you know how things are going. Sounds like they are ready to work with you regarding the needs of your child. I think you did real good at the meeting, a very well behaved woman and did not need any of us to come bail you out. Well, you just go girl is all I can say. Very happy that you seem satisfied with the outcome. God bless you and your child.
