Changing Doctors
I have been with my employers Doctor since I was injured. We have tried a lot of different things to fix me and so far nothing has given any real relief. I think pretty soon they are going to say I am at mmi. What do each of you think, should I chose my own Doctor before I am rated at mmi or should I stay with their Doctor, or does it even make a difference? I am in New Mexico. Thanks for your help.

RE: Changing Doctors
I am no expert but I believe you are entitled to a second opinion . I dont think i would trust THEIR Dr. I would have my primary care physician schedule me with a neurosurgeon .
If you click on the state link at the top of this page you , the New mexico , then for employees , you will find lots of useful info regarding New Mexico workers comp .

RE: Changing Doctors
The New Mexico work comp law allows your employer to initially select which doctor you are to see, or the employer can allow you to pick your own doctor. If the employer picks the doctor, then you have the automatic right to change to a doctor of your own choosing after 60 days of treatment.

Do you think my impairment rating would be different by a Doctor I picked verses one they picked?

RE: Changing Doctors
the AMA guides don't allow for much deviation and i don't know enough about your injury.
some condition shave more subjectivity then others.
it could be a few % up or down from another doctors.
