Hi all, been pretty busy the last few days. Here for your veiwing pleasure is "Abdul", one of our Llamas. The sheep and the other Llama surrounding him we will get to later.Abdul came as a package deal, these people took 2 of our rescue dogs and we took 3 of their rescue Llamas. We have been great friends ever since.

Fencer, Love them, Those are some fat sheep!!!!!!!! Have a question, is it true that Lamas spit? and are they gentle?.

YES, some Llamas do spit. Only one of ours is a spitter, and they don't just spit for no reason. It's a kind of defense for them, if they are scared or nervous, spitting is their way of sending you away.Our llama that does spit got me about 6 times, but she now is o.k. with me. They are gentle animals, unless they are protecting a flock of sheep.We once lived in an area that was well known for coyotes taking down any animals and we let our sheep roam all night withe the Llamas, never had one taken down.The spit, by the way, is not just spit. They bring up the contents of their stomaches. You will know before they spit by the noises they make doing this. And it smells horrible!!! Instant shower when you get hit. We had a guy working here on the farm that I did not care for, one day I was with the llamas and he started coming towards us and Contessa (the spitter) started her thing.I told him not to come any closer or she would nail him. He said "oh your not going to spit at me you pretty girl", no more than got the words out and she got him. They also don't back down if they are in defense mode, they will spit and wait to see your reaction if you continue they will charge you.If you would like to see the farm we live on, go to backacresfarm.com. Down the road is what used to be known as Goblin Hollow Farm, I liked that name, but it's now called Manda Farm, named after Michael and Anna who now own it. Yes Tuffy, I am the guy with the white t-shirt, next to me is my wife, at the end of the table (standing) is Penn the owner of the farm. Across from me is Pierre, a farm friend from France and next to him is Jake, an intern that we had here last summer. It is a great place, but we are so far from civilization it sometimes makes life here rough. Fortunately there is always someone from the area going "into town" and we often ask each other if anything is needed.If you ever find yourself in the area, stop in, we'd love to show you around!!

ps, the big window on the second floor of the picture below us, that is my bedroom window, Too bad I have to look out at those gardens every morning huh?? Now that I look at this site, we need more pictures on it!!
