RE: What type of material is SCS encased in?
Your not a big baby, this is you health and your life. And your doctor doesn't want to do anything to cause more problems. Both ours are the Medtronics restore ultra but we didn't even think about what it was made of. We don't have a problem with metals so that would be part of the reason we didn't. You are right to worry about it if you think it could be a problem. You need to be comfortable with what ever your doctor is doing. If not you are just going to be that much more upset about things and so worked up it can make you sick. One of the biggest things that bugged me was the fact I needed to be awake for part of the surgery. I was very worried I'd be so awake I felt it. Talk with your doctor about anything you need to.

RE: What type of material is SCS encased in?
Good Morning! Thanks for the info on your SCS. I have started a list of things to let my doctors know. Titanuim hmm my husband has a ring made of titanium. Maybe I should wear it for a couple of days to see if i react. Lead wires are a good question to ask also. So how are you doing today? I hope you are on the better part of your WC journey.

I am having my coffee and just read your very kind reply. I thank God for people like you and the other's on this forum. Yes I worry too much and yes I can get sick from it too. I know you have probably been there and done that yourself. It sure feels great to be able to just get online and type all your hearts desire and there is always someone there to listen and answer you. That makes two life lines I have now. I hope you are doing well and would like to wish you a wonderful Sunday Morning.

RE: What type of material is SCS encased in?
Hope you are having a nice Sunday as well. I've had alot of ups and downs with the WC system still on a down side right now while I wait for the appeal of my back pay and stuff. But the one thing I've learned is to try to remember it takes time and there is not allot you can do about it. Having people on here you can talk to is a great way to help deal with it. My SCS was paid for by my insurance and WC has been told to pay them back and that is part of what the appeal is all about but from the time my doctor told me he wanted me to try the SCS and I got the trial it took about 15 or 16 months. Had to have two trips for the mental stuff because the insurance didn't like the first guy I was sent to so that added maybe a couple of months to the wait. Both said I had problems but didn't see any reason not to go ahead with the SCS. Above all remember that a SCS is not a fix for anything it will only help. And everybody does differant with one so it may help you and it might not. I hate to say that but it's best to know all you can. For me I know I felt alittle relief when we talked about doing it just because I felt like it was the first thing that might really help the pain. And it did so it was a great thing.

RE: What type of material is SCS encased in?
Here is a good site for information on the SCS. http://www.spineuniverse.com/displayarti...e1488.html
You can even watch a video of the procedure. Just remember that a trial is exactly that. If it doesn't work out for any reason, then you won't proceed to the implant. I too am waiting for Trial SCS for CRPS and Neuropathic Pain. However, I must first get my depression under control before the PM doc will ask for authorization. I know what to expect from Trial SCS, but must go along with the program first. My PM doc did give me info and a DVD on both the Trial and the Implant. I too have a reaction to metals since having the RSD. I do have a titanium implant for cervical spine fusion and that doesn't cause any problems. Gotta go for now!

RE: What type of material is SCS encased in?
Thank you for the update and glad to know there is someone out there in a very familiar pre SCS trial wait. I will keep you up on my psych appts that start in August and see if I can help you along any - support wise. Remember, you have been through a lot already. Keep up the faith and always know that you are a good person and you did not ask for what is going on with you. It is not your fault. You will get to that peaceful time in your life once again. It is certain my friend! Take a deep breath and hang in there! I am here for you and hopefully you are for me too. Maybe this was God's way of keeping us alive. Anytime or anything you want to discuss I will listen. I am sure everyone else in this forum will too.

RE: What type of material is SCS encased in?
Thanks CRPS girl. It's not an easy road to travel and unfortunately unless you've walked in someone else's shoes, it's very hard to truly understand what that person is going thru. I've learned thru all this never to judge another person.
Keep me posted on your journey, and I will do the same. Tomorrow I go for regular 6-wk follow up with WC doc. He has been sent a letter from my Pain Management Doctor stating that my RSD treatment is on hold untill we get my depression under control. I'm so looking forward to this visit! Ugh!!!! He doesn't recognize my depression so therefore won't help getting it under control. I have a feeling he and my NCM will put me at P&S because of this. Maybe that will be a good thing so I can get out of WC. I just don't care about my claim anymore. I've already taken steps to help myself with medication change. Take care of yourself. Let Go, and Let God...... |
