my name is kenneth hathaway i was injured on 9-18-08 the insurance paid me for one mnth then they stopped i got a atty and i finally got a settlement my question is we settle for 17800.00-the 2800.00 they allready paid me but he has done billed me over 7000.00 dollars well over 25% of the settlement is that legal and do i have to pay 25% of the first check i got or not im in tx

All I can say is call your state WC claim center. They will tell you the maximum % that they can charge. In WI, they can charge 20% max. I do believe they can take it out of the 1st check. All this should have been talked about, before you retained your attorney. If you have a long term injury, I hope that you are going to continue receiving medical for it, not just a lump sum payment.
