remedys for muscle cramps
Home remedys for muscle cramps.

Just curious, I have been getting muscle cramps behind the thigh and in calfs. It wakes me up out of a dead sleep, and cant seem to find that happy medium untill it releases. The worse part is it's my injured leg and I had my worse episode after taking a nap after work.

I just couldnt get off the bed to stand on it, my wife was trying to help by pulling pushing but the agony lasted about 20 min before I was able to move it..............She was worried it was a clot and become un-attatched.......... it was not the normal cramping this 1 had tears to eyes and I can usually take pain but not this time..

I heard bannanas but what are your opinions, if they get anyworse or more often I'm going to have to see the Doc, but rather not..........Thanks in advance.
p.s.--- I have posted at the Inj w.

RE: remedys for muscle cramps
My injury effects my left leg and foot. Every now and then I will get a severe cramp in the calf or foot. It only happens when I am laying down, and yes, it has woken me up from a deep sleep.

The only thing that works for me is to get out of bed as soon as I can and walk. After a step or two, the pain is gone.

Dehydration can cause muscle cramps( charlie horses _ you should also have a talk with your Dr, it could be you are low on Potassium, or calcium. Bananas are a good source of potassium, Have you started any new meds in the past week or so?.

RE: remedys for muscle cramps
When my legs had this problem, my Dr. suggested that I buy over the counter Magnesium supplements @ 400mg. I took 1 a day for awhile and they finally would pass. I could'nt understand why this started happening, since I'm on muscle relaxers and many other meds for my back and neck. I also eat bananas, but the Magnesium did help, I don't take it any more, and don't get the leg cramps now.
Good luck
Vickie

RE: remedys for muscle cramps
Hi Bronco, Make sure you tell your Dr. about this as the others said . Usually they prescribe Quinine sulfate for leg cramps. I'm not a Dr. so ask him/her about this. The problem with quinine is it can interact with dig etc. Vitamin E is also suppose to be helpful. My remedy I use on myself....and this really is the only thing that helps me....is I straighten my leg and have my hubby push my toes toward my head....He pushes really hard.....It hurts like you know what for 30 seconds , but it will pull a calf cramp out. Again please tell your Doc about this and don't take this as medical advice.....You could be dehydrated or have low potassium. Again I' am not prescribing anything....but pulling the cramp out works for me....

GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY AND OUR PRESIDENT!

Jayne, yes the flush will happen. That is when I bought the non-flushing ones from CVS.
