Had Trigger Finger Surgery
State of Wisconsin:

hi... I had surgery last week on my hand to release a trigger finger. I let my work know I was having surgery within 4 days, whether this was caused by my work duties or not, I needed it done.
When I mentioned what I was having done , and then answering their question as possible causes of trigger finger...They sounded very concerned and insist they file a WC claim.

Today, the insurance adjuster called and asked me all sorts of questions, ( including asking me if I ever filed a WC claim before which I have about 8 years ago for my back) ....also they recorded the conversation.

She said they sent me a check for 1 day missed work, because they only have a certain time period to send payment, and that my injury payment starts from my day of surgery and on. She wanted to get medical records to see if my doctor says its work related.

I wonder if my doctor says he doesn't know for sure if its work related that if I cash the 1 day check, if I have to pay it back? I'm still off work and have a follow up tomorrow to see when I can go back to work.

The more I thought about it, if the doctor says its not work related, should I just drop it? As I stated before, WC or not I needed the surgery. I need my job, I have 3 kids to support. I just dont want to cause any trouble unless I am entitled to it by law.

Thanks!

Traysi

RE: Had Trigger Finger Surgery
Hi Tray,
I hope you are doing well after surgery.
I to have TriggerFinger and my injury was
Aug 2008 and it took until the end of Feb 08
for them to figure out what was causing my pain
and also to accept my WC claim. Which the very
next day I was Fired!! I had an EMG and MRI done
and went to the Ortho Dr and had 1 Cortisone shot
and will be going back for a 2nd then a 3rd if those
don't help. Next step is surgery.
Did you have any tests done to find out you had the
Trigger Finger?? Also how long did the Dr say you might
be off of work from that surgery?? Im just curious as to
the time frame incase I have to have the operation.
Mine is on my dominent hand. Im still learning how all this
WC stuff works myself. I haven't been given a rating or MMI
and have gotten 2 WC payments so far.Not sure when or
if they will continue. Anyway, best of luck to you.

RE: Had Trigger Finger Surgery
Since many Trigger Finger surgeries can even be performed in a surgeon s office. The operation and such is quick and easy. recovery is very fast also. It's only my opinion, if they accept it fine, that is great. But, if they deny it, let it be, and let your heatlh insurance oick it up. It's not a big enough case to even fight, that is unless you end up having major medical problem s with it. I don't even think a settlement would come into play for it. And even if it did, it would be a very super small one.
