pop up blocker, computer problem
I have an issue with this computer and school. I recently purchased this computer about a month ago, because the other laptop is on life support. Anyway, part of my schooling requires me to visit a site, so I can do my homework.

The issue I am having with this computer is when I visit the site, it tells me that I have a pop up blocker on.

I have gone into tools and turned off the internet pop up blocker. then revisited the site and get the same response. I have gone into AVG ( computer spy ware protection ) and checked it out.

Does anyone have any ideas????

I can still use the old computer to visit the site, but it is only a matter of time before it RIP.

RE: pop up blocker, computer problem
AQA,
I go into "control panel" and double click on "internet options", click on the "privacy tab". Go down to where you see "pop up blocker" there will be a box that you can turn on the pop up blocker, beside that you will see a "settings" box, click on that and a page will come up that you can enter websites that you want to allow pop ups from. I have Windows XP, I'm not sure what you have, hope this works for you.

I have noticed that if a pop up gets blocked from a site that I have'nt allowed, a yellow box will appear under the tool bar and you can click that bar and click on "temporary allow pop ups from that site", "always allow pop ups from that site" or "never allow pop ups from that site". I hope this helps you big brother.

Love
Vickie

RE: pop up blocker, computer problem
AQA my new home computer had issues and they were caused by the security being to tight,i believe it was the fire wall causing the problems and i had a friend that fixed this for me.he had to back down the security a little and yes i'm still protected from viruses.good luck mine would not let me send e-mails or print off the internet.

Each day is not a rite,it's a given.

RE: pop up blocker, computer problem
If you have already followed the steps outlined by vicki and still have the problem, my money is on the AVG - though I don't know much about that program.

Do you have any toolbars installed? They will sometimes give you that protection. We use the Alexa toolbar (everyone here should use that!) and it has a pop up blocker; but it gives you the option of allowing pop ups for individual sites.

RE: pop up blocker, computer problem
Any and all Pop-up blockers, has to be set, where you type in the web site, or cut-copy-paste the web link into the settings box to allow the site, even Pogo Links Jayne. If for some reason you use another Toolbar with Pop-Up blockers on it, you then have to put the web link into allow (this site) there also. This has to be performed for each Pop-up blocker being used. Just shuting down a Pop-up blocker won't work. It must be set-up to allow them sites. Sometimes, some sites have more then one link, meaning each link has to be allowed for pop-ups also.
