Knee Question?
History:

I was injured in the classroom lifting a child.
I tore the meniscus in the left knee, surgery 3/06.
6/6/06 WC dr said I needed a total knee replacement of the left knee.

Right knee surgery 2/07 from overuse of the knee, (meniscus tears & pica sectioning). 3/07 I learned I would need a total knee replacement in the future of the left knee.

WC is refusing to pay for replacement of the right knee saying I have a preexisting condition. I was unaware of having previous knee problems.

6/07 I am receiving PT due to low back problems.

Today- The pain in my left knee has increased to the point of keep me up at night, I had 3 hrs sleep last night and that was with the use of a pain patches and meds.

I have stairs I must take to enter my home, (6 total).
My knee will collapse when I go up the steps. This will happen several times in one attempt to enter my home. If I take it slow I can go down the stairs okay.

Problem is my attorney says it will be a year before a decision is made on if wc will pay for the replacement. My health insurance refuses to may any bills on my knee due to wc.

I don't know if my knee will hold out a year.
Any suggestions?

Sad RE: Knee Question?
Sometimes as you are now seeing, the answers to a injured worker, their injuries, and add ons, just don't work the way we want, but as you learned now, will and does take time, plenty of it. It's an issue you have to get use to. I'm so sorry to have to tell you that. WC, can be so sad for many people, even you. I just beg you to keep pushing and pushing more, get your Doctor, Doctor's or Surgeon, to also make you braces for you knee's till things get pushed to your favor, saying the braces are for you safety and health. You must stay in close contact with your Attorney at these times, and let them work for you. SadSad

Bummer, I'll see if I can find some of your State issues that might help you also. If I find what State you in.

RE: Knee Question?
At PT last week the therapist asked if I had a brace for my knee, and I told her no. My guess is I will have to go tho court to get one approved.

Thanks.

RE: Knee Question?
Got off the phone with my attorney. I explained to him what was going on with my knee. He told me to contact the wc dr that treated my knee and see if he would see me again.

I call my wc dr and he refused to see me, said he has completed treatment that wc is responsible for. Said anything that needs done is the responsibility of my health ins. I explained that my health ins refuses to cover my knee.

I called my attorney told him what the wc dr said. He told me he will file in court to send me to another dr after pt is completed on my back, that will be the end of July.

I guess I will see my medical dr and get him to write an RX for a knee brace and pay for it myself.

RE: Knee Question?
Bummer, I can't see why you can not get the attorney to file for the Hearing now, for there will be a time delay anyways. This way, the time for the Hearing waiting period can be absorbed while your doing PT. waiting to me, in my Opinion then makes little sense. save your bills and notes Bummer, if you pay for the Brace / Braces....

RE: Knee Question?
I understand what you are saying Bad Boy about filing for a motion now, I may of misunderstood my attorney and he may be planning to do that.

I know it will be a while down the road before I receive any medical treatment of my knee. Wc dr told me I will need to see a Bone Joint Specialist. I expect a fight from WC IC in getting any treatment approved.

The IME the neurosurgon did was in my favor in getting a knee replacement paid for by wc, maybe that will help.
