Impairment Reading Questions
Question for you guys. I have had 2 knee surgeries in the past year and a half. I had a complete rupture of my patella tendon on my first surgery and required a lateral release and meniscectomy for which they took about 50% of my lateral meniscus since my knee cap wasnt tracking correctly and ate some stuff away on my second surgery. I have 2 jobs and was hurt at my federal job. Im a firefighter and am wondering if this imparment reading might hurt my city fire job if the percentage turns out to be to high(should have my impairment reading the end of March). Also was trying to gauge what kind or % loss reading I might be looking at with my 2 surgeries. I'd appreciate any advice or answers you might have on my questions.
thanks,
BumKnee

RE: Impairment Reading Questions
each agency maintains their own physical qualifcation standards. Many have unions. I would seek out local reference material from your HR or union contacts. You may have to undergo a fitness for duty exam with a physician who is familiar with them. discuss it with your physician.
ratings a different in every jurisdiction. most can't be predicted ahead of time.

RE: Impairment Reading Questions
I'm in California and have had a Spinal Fusion, Both knees completely replaced and my right shoulder rebuilt. I was given a 59% WPI. Report stated that I could always perform an office job. I was an Industrial Athletic for 30 years. If I remember correctly they offerred me $105,000 to cover my loss of earnings. I used to earn $65,000.00 a year before my accident. Fell off backwards from stairs which had no handrails. OSHA fined the company $113.00. The number is correct. $113.00 which was probably listed under cost of doing business and we the taxpayers paid the tab. Go figure!

RE: Impairment Reading Questions
Welcome to the forum

I was injured in 2005 and worked as an Early Childhood Teacher.

I had a bilateral knee injury with one being replaced and the other may need replaced in the future.

In order for me to return to return to work in my previous position I must past 3 different physicals and health assessment required by standards accreditation standards, & state & federal licensing requirements.

My job requires I be able to lift 100 lbs 1/3 of the work day. This is something I am unable to do with a knee replacement.

You need to look at the physical requirements of your job. The HR department should be able to assist you with this.
