RE: More meds to the mix................
Chris..Sure hope the medications work for you. I did take Lyrica but if I remember right it was my blood pressure that shot up...and started seeing things that weren't there. So not sure if I was seeing things because my blood pressure was just so high. I really tried to stay on the Lyrica because the Dr's do say it is one of the best medications for nerve pain. But I just couldn't do it. Haven't tried the xanax.(sp) or atleast I don't remember it. Sorry my memory seems to be getting worse and worse. Please let us know if the medications work for you. I sure hope they do for you.

RE: More meds to the mix................
I'm on neurontin instead of the lyrica.  And I'm on xanax which is an anti-anxiety med (doesn't do anything for me as far as making me tired).  I take .25 mg of xanax 3 times a day.  Also take the neurontin 300 mg also 3 times a day.  And vicodin 10/325 up to 4 times a day.  And cyclobenzaprine twice a day.  Too dang many pills I think but when I get sick of taking them...I really "bottom out" from the pain levels.  I really need to talk to my doctor about an antidepressant... but yuck...more pills!!!!  I hope you have better luck with your meds than I do.

RE: More meds to the mix................
Snow, Flexeril is (Cyclobenzaprine), Neurontin to try help heal the Nerves, but if doesn't work after a long lenght of time, getting off it is a tricky task too. For never ever just stop taking that one. As for the Vicodin low dose you take, the Doctor should know that Vicodin will only help you till your body gets use to it, which in many cases is a week or two, after that it will seem to do nothing. In general, the only one I see on your list that works for a long time is the Xanax. But as always my opinion. Might be a good idea to talk with your Doctor, but only make changes one at a time, and done slowly, not to fast, so no reactions take place.

RE: More meds to the mix................
Morning CC.......Have not taken either lyrica or neurontin for various reasons. As far as xanax goes it does nothing for me. I take Klonopin also as does limbo and have had great success with it. I also can't stop, relax, stop my mind from whirling so need it to sleep. I have days that I don't take it at all. Just be aware that all benzo;s are addicting so be careful. Someone mentioned not knowing what it does for depression. It's not an Ad it;s an anti-anxiety drug. Maybe your Ad is making you more hyper. I have this problem with all SSRI's. Sounds like the drill of one med to help one issue and another to counteract the side effects of another. Be safe and be well.

RE: More meds to the mix................
BadBoy...I'm not sure what you mean by I'm on a low dose of vicodin unless you're talking about the tylenol part. I was told that the 10 is the highest dose of the pain killer. The 325 is of tylenol which that is low...my doctor said that the tylenol is what rips up your kidneys and liver, and if needed that I can take OTC tylenol with it. So have I been misinformed?

Chris,
I hope the new meds will work for you. Over my time in this mess I have tried so many different meds it is outrageous. I have taken some of the meds you have talked about. I went crazy on Cymbalta and Lunesta. Had to be taken off of those. Right now I am on Klonopin 3 times a day for anxiety, Loritab 10, 3 times a day, Bacoflen 10mg, 3 times a day, Zanaflex 4mg, 3 times a day, Lexapro 20 mg in the morning and Trazadone 150 mg, at bedtime and still don't sleep well. Even with all this it does not touch my pain level enough to get relief. I will say a prayer for you that the meds work. Cajun Hugsssss, MJC Lumbar Laminectomy L5 - S1, Lumbar Disectomy L 4 -5, Cervical Microdisectomy C-4 -5, Cervical Anterior Fusion C 4 -5, Cervical Anterior Fusion C 5 - 6, Lumbar Disectomy, Laminectomy and Foraminotmy L 3 - 4, Cryo Surgery Lumbar. --Ongoing Problems.. Permanently Totally Disabled. |

RE: More meds to the mix................
Just to give some folks an idea of how after being injured how so many other things can arrive from just one serious injury. In my signature below is a list of my injuries, and before my injury I took only a small dose of High Blood Pressure Medication. When I was injured I was 42 at the time I weighed 208lbs. and I'm 6'2" tall. I did very heavy manual labor in unloading my Trailer, and I drove a Class A Truck. Since the injury and after taking different Meds., too many in the beginning to count, I now weigh 252lbs. 30 of which I can directly attribute to a medication given me by my surgeon, the name slips my mind at the moment, but I gained 30 lbs. in three weeks and made him take me off of them, and naturally not being able to exercise I can't get the weight back off. :My Meds. as of Today:
MS Contin CR- 200mg. 3xdaily Morphine Sulfate IR 30mg.- as needed for breakthrough Neurontin 600mg.- 2xdaily, 1200mg. at bedtime Klonopin 1mg.- 1x at bedtime Promethazine 25mg. 3x daily Lactulose- 15ml. everyday for constipation Atenolol- 25mg. 1x High Blood Pressure Pravastatin 40mg.- 1x for High Cholesterol Pro-Air HFA Inhaler for Asthma Testim 1 5mg. tube of gel rubbed into my shoulders daily. (My body for some reason has stopped producing Testosterone) I'll save you guys some time, thats 10 DIFFERENT MEDICATIONS DAILY! My point being in posting this thread is that w/c wants to only look at the original injury and in most cases try to deny those, and if they do accept the injury, that's all they want to treat. I don't know how, but somehow, someway we are going to have to get w/c to understand that sometimes an initial injury starts a snowball effect in a persons body and these items need addressed also!! I'm sorry, I've been pretty down lately, and I just needed to vent and maybe try to get a point across that may someday. somehow help someone!! Thanks for letting me vent, I really needed that!!!

RE: More meds to the mix................
Hi MJC, I want to thank you for the encouragement and the prayers. It is so frustrating adding and subtracting meds. Hard to keep track. I have so many docs in the picture and every appt. they ask what meds I'm currently taking. Ha! I carry a score pad with me. It's never the same as the previous appt.
So far the Xanax has been WONDERFUL! I'm going to hate to give it up, but it's only short term until my next appt. Also, I'm happy with the neurontin. It is such a low dose right now until I get it up there, but it doesn't make me sick at all. Just a little more tired than usual. Hi Still, I totally understand where you're coming from. I can't believe you have to take so many different meds on a daily basis. That alone has to be very hard on you both emotionally and physically. Yesterday, I had two doctor appts., plus a phone conference with NCM. I was so pleasantly surprised by my WC appt. My new Primary Treater for my Stress Injury was called out on an emergency so I was seen by a DO. They are the same as an MD except they believe in treating the person as a "whole". What a difference in exams. They are trained to be good listeners as well, and take into consideration what the patient is "saying". I didn't know the difference between a DO and MD until yesterday. Thank God there are some DO's who work occupational medicine. I would suggest to anyone to try and find a DO as a Primary Treating Physician. I also got my psyche eval results yesterday and I am dx'd with Panic Disorder, Depression, and Anxiety. My therapy starts next week. Not sure what to expect as this is all new to me. I am also waiting for UR approval for new cervical MRI and Full Body Bone Scan for physical injuries. I hope you are feeling a little better. Thanks for all your kind words and help you provide. Let Go, and Let God...... |
