FCE...what to expect?
Hi everyone! Quick question....am waiting on FCE to be scheduled and I was wondering what to expect with this exam. Also, do NCM come to these? If I have one, I don't know it...nobody goes to my dr. appt.'s with me except sometimes a relative. Can I request that if a NCM shows up at my exam to leave? After reading several posts on here about what NCM make the injured wkr. do I am hesitant to have one present. Thanks for any input.

RE: FCE...what to expect?
Expect to do a lot of various physical activity while being measured and maybe photographed by a very nice physical therapist. NCM's do not attend but wait for the report to be issued although they could hold your water bottle if they did. You'll have fun.

RE: FCE...what to expect?
My FCE wasn't bad. But they may talk to you as if you are buddies, try to relax you so you will try and do things you normally wouldn't do. Some use trickery. They will take pictures of you doing each task, the camera will be hidden. They will take a couple of polaroid shots to get you think that's all the photo's they will take but it won't be.
Try and do your best, but if you can't do it, say you can't do it. If you don't try, they will note your effort or lack thereof. Be on guard. Try not to give to much personal info. Be brief, polite and kind, but don't be duped into thinking they actually care about any of your problems or the outcome of your case, because they don't. They're just doing their job. So be on guard. Hope this helps. |

RE: FCE...what to expect?
Cycler, Lalah..thank you both so much for the reply. I'm kinda more at ease as to what to expect with what you've told me. It won't be till the end of the month when the FCE will be done. So, I'm waiting still. Another question comes to mind though...with the FCE report will they (being my dr.) be able to come up with so-called permanent restrictions for me in order to be able to hopefully return to my job? Or what if during this time period I get treatment for my ongoing problems and restrictions wouldn't be necessary? Will I always be on restrictions I guess that's what I really what to know?

RE: FCE...what to expect?
you can change or eliminate restrictions at any time. Keep in mind that most people get better in time in spite of what Dr.s do to them
