AM I losing my mind?
Hi just wanted to thank everyone for there help.but I have one more question since my injury which hasnt been but 4 months ago I have started having the strangest thoughts besides the hardship of the cut in pay causes and all the drs. poking and probing around . I have gotten where i cant hardly stand myself. I'm short with my husband and kids I have to force myself to leave the house or do anything around the house "alot of that is Idon't want to hurt myself "My dr. is very much against maintain anyone on pain meds which in alot of ways i agree. But I feel I'm slipping into a bad deppression and can't seem to get a grip with it.I've always been a very strong minded person but worring weather I'm going to recover and be able to return to the only thing I know how to do and love to do which is hanging commercial wallpaper and make decent money agin is almost an over load . I may sound like I'm whinning and believe me I no there are alot of you in worst healt than me. But I,m really gettting concerned about my state of mind, and don't no if there is a program w/c has to address this issue because I know I cant be the only one who has felt like this. Or mabe I am.

depression is a normal side effect of a injury.....

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

Your simply not alone. I can say I have been where you are now. Strange as it is, the pain needs some relief. But, that alone now, will not help with the thoughts you have of hurting yourself more. In fact that is very normal. The issue of draging yourself to get out, is the problem. It's called not wanting to be social. It's a form of depression, and you must report these issues to your treating doctor. If the treating doctor refuses to address this issue, you report the problem to the Insurance Adjustor, and seek help with your own health doctor. Fastest way to help depression, is to seek help as soon as you or your family notice it. Then get the proper help you need. Obtain copies of all your medical documents and reports, and also copies of the one showing your depression. If the doctor, or insurance adjustor don't help, seek an attorney that performs workmens compensation cases, and seek help that way. It takes that pressure then off you. Every little bit of help, does help.

RE: AM I losing my mind?
I believe each and everyone of us has felt the same way at one point or another. If not, they will. In my case, After my emotional break down. I decided, instead of looking at what was not working, To start looking at what was working.

8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom.

Yes I think everybody feels the same atleast once. My injury was back in 05 and I'm still fighting it. Lucky for me my wife had a WC injury several years before that. Now I understand what she went thru and she can help me out with it. Hang in there and things will get better. I hate to just say we all have to deal with it but it's we do all have to find our way of dealing with it.

It's easy for someone else to say, but have to get your mind off your injury. Play some online games, read a book or pack up the family and go for a ride. Or chat on here.

RE: AM I losing my mind?
you are showing the signs of an acute depressive reaction. It will get progressively worse without treatment. You need to contact your physician and get a referral for professional help. it won't go away by itself. It can become very debilitating and will interrupt recovery from your physical injury. You need treatment before it becomes chronic.

RE: AM I losing my mind?
I also agree with everyone that has posted a reply to this post. Everyone will go through some form of depression due to the injury. Although wc denies that it is BECAUSE of the injury most of the time , it happens alot. The medication is very expensive and that I think is why they fight to not pay for it.

I also saw that you wrote something about the doctor not agreeing with pain meds. If you do not need them then I agree with the doctor to try to not use them and get off as soon as possible. My best friend was taking alot of pain meds. from one doctor for her back. When she was on them she was very very depressed. She says that now that the doctor shut her off from them ( cold turkey) she went to a pain clinic and told the new doctor that she did not want any NARCOTICS as she had a very bad withdrawl and does not want to go through that again. She claims that her depression went away from not being on the narcotics.

Everyone is different. I have so much neuropathy/RSD nerve pain that it is very difficult for me to even make it through a work day without meds. I do believe a part of you maybe cutting back on the medication is causing this depression/withdrawl and will soon pass. If not, you must seek help to talk about this. There is a site I truely love to go to and see alot of people talking about withdrawls from narcotics. It is called " drugs.com". Go read some of the threads and see what can be done to slowly get off medication if not needed anymore. Remember there is always help!!!

carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD.

RE: AM I losing my mind?
If your in Pain, your doctor does need to address that as well. If medication is needed for pain relief, the doctor should be finding you a medication to atleast help in cutting the edge of the pain off some. There is no medication that will remove pain, but to cut the edge off, there are many good medications to help with that.
