RE: got a text from niece in Houston
money was the problem she has a van with no ac, a single mom that is raising her kids on her own, one child is disabled, she went up to houston as far as she could all the gas stations were running out of gas or had run out already, was costing her 100 a night to stay at a holiday inn so she decided to go back to her town not knowing she would not have a job to make some money. Her mom is trying to find a way to send her money, she told me yesterday they have eaten up all their food, and are eating peanut butter sandwiches. One never knows what these people think unless we put ourselves in their positions, ya know.I guess help hasn't gotten to her town yet. I know there are many families suffering right now.Not just hers.Does that kind of answer your question?

RE: got a text from niece in Houston
I am sort of wondering the same thing that jayne asked. Why would anyone stay in this sort of predicament unless it is money and they did not have the means to get out. This is so sad. I wish there was a way we could get to your neice. Did you call anyone in that region about her such as life support or a hospital or police. Maybe they do not know she is there yet. If she is hungry how are the children doing? How is the older one doing that was ill? Lots of prayers going up halftrak for your niece and all others... love Red

halftrak, how much longer does she have power for her cell phone. I have to charge mine about every 3 days. When that is gone, it will be worst for her because she will loose contact. Wow...I wish there was something we could do. Love Red

RE: got a text from niece in Houston
Halftrac I Just wondered is there any way we as a group can help?other than prayer? I have a small van and could try and go get her I dont think one tank would get me there and back tho.... is there gas to be bought there?when we went to my daughters after katrina we took the truck and 5 -5gal cans of gas......I would send Bill in a second and you know he would go he still has his diaster badge so he could get in and out.....
;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: got a text from niece in Houston
I think you'd have to bring a gas can with. I heard on the news this moring that they are running out of supplies and gas and no one knows when anyone would be able to get to them to bring them any. Plus, the gas there is way high since they are running out. I also heard that 21 people died and I think over 2,000 people rescued so far. I'll send my prayers....

RE: got a text from niece in Houston
yep that is the problem no gas but i heard that there was supposed to be tankers heading down that way with gas for the stations. She has no power to charge her phone, yesterday she went to a friends house that had a generator, and charged her phone a little but it has probably died again.I got a text last night from her and it was sad.She is a tough cookie she will manage as soon as her mom can get a way to send her money she will. Her oldest daughter who has the baby stocked up on formula for the month so baby is fine and her daughter is feeling better. The baby is only 3 or 4 months old. Thanks for caring all of you. will keep you updated
