Strange thing happened
I applied to a temp service for employment and was called for a job. I was sooooooooo excited.................they asked me to come in and fill out the paperwork which i did. Now one question on this paperwork was if i had ever had carpal tunnel. Well I didnt want to lie so i checked yes.
When I got in to meet with the lady that called me for the job all of a sudden she says this company cancelled their work order. She said she said she tried to call me before I drove all the way there........well only contact number they have for me is my cell phone and she did NOT call me. I am beginning to wonder if this is why I havent found a job. Im great to work until they find out I had carpal tunnel??? Man oh man this work comp stuff is gonna haunt me to my grave...............I'm sure of it!!!!!! |

RE: Strange thing happened
What type of work was this that they asked that question? Maybe they had alot of people put in WC claims for that or something. Seems strange that they would ask that question. Maybe depending on what type of work it is. That is still no reason why they should not hire you. If anything, carpal tunnel cases of it coming back is very rare. You would think if you had carpal before that you would not be a risk for a job with repetition. Although i am one that it happened to.. Chin up, and don't let that get you down.
carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |

RE: Strange thing happened
It is against the EEOC and Labor Laws & Rules to ask about medical like that. They can ask only after you been hired to supply any information pertaining to any disabilities you may have that might need addressing now that your hired.
But since it is all verbal, chances of proving it are unlikely now. Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes. They are based on personal opinions, experience, or research and are "not to be taken as fact or legal advice", otherwise, always consult an attorney or a doctor. |

RE: Strange thing happened
I'm surprised you didn't come away with permanent restrictions.
Most with serious CT injuries do. |

RE: Strange thing happened
Bad Boy is right, the employer can not ask about your medical until after you are hired.
Hubby & family own a wholesale company and this is something the companies attorney has made very clear to us. And, I am hearing impaired and have been for many years. This is information I do not offer until late in the interview process, I want the employer to have a chance to know me before I offer this information. |

RE: Strange thing happened
well i didnt offer the info................they told me i would be starting at this company on monday morning...............this was friday and i needed to do the paperwork and do a drug screen. I did the paperwork and this paper was one of those papers. Then I meet with the lady and all of a sudden they said the company cancelled.
So do I lie from now on???? My case was still waiting for a hearing date but i emailed atty and told him to settle this mess because I have lost everything I own and cannot sit around another year waiting to hear something. |

RE: Strange thing happened
Do you lie, no, don't offer information that shouldn't be asked, till your hired though.

RE: Strange thing happened
The american disability act protects you from that type of question. If you are able to do the job with minor adjustment they can not discrimant again you. Look in your phone book under goverment offices and call them and talk with them about what happened.
May God send his angels to hold you in his arms |
