Hi all, I had a stray thought...I know that we can look on line to see if our employer has wcomp insurance, but does anyone know if there is a "watchlist" that shows how many wcomp claims are filed from the company? I think that would be a great tool when considering to go to work from someone. Especially if the watchlist showed if the wcomp claimant was fired/laid off after filing a claim. I think such a list would really keep things a little more fair. Any thoughts?

most states keep loss and claim data on employers in order to determine premium. Many states have a rating system that lets carriers charge companies that have a history of high losses more then those that don't. It's not generally available to the public. a lot of employers have workers that do a lot of different jobs. I'm not sure you can tell from the number of employer claims whether your type of job has a higher risk then others.

even if there was I doubt any worker would use it. How many on this board checked to see if their employer had comp insurance before they accepted the job?
most rely on the state to monitor and enforce their laws and don't think they'll endup needing work comp and not have it.

How true 1171, I have never checked the board to see if my employer was in compliance, I have rarely given any thought to being injured, and if I did I was quite sure that everyone would play be the rules, and that our legislature/powers that be had worked to ensure the rights of workers. Hmm, I think I should change my username to 'NAIVE'.

I do think that such a list should be made public...from what you have stated here there are 4 parties involved: the State, the employer, the insurer, the employee...and the only one left out of the loop is the employee. The only one who seems to benefit from this list is the insurer as it justifies their rate increase, which in turn makes the employer do just about anything to circumvent wcomp claims. The loser always being the person left out.
