Thank you. He doesn't mind, but I do. I was raised around police all my life. This is not how they were. But I don't work for the same department as my family did. They were close and took care of each other. I could never do that to another person. But then, I have a heart. I think at 90% I will be as good as better than others I work with. At least I love my job. Thank you for the kind words.

I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune. I was wondering if you are unionized down there?

Hi, Welcome to the Boards, and Thank You for the Service You do for Your Community!! You are going to have to put up with a Certain Amount of B.S. from w/c, the Only Advice I can give is keep ALL of Your Appointments, and Document Everything that happens, even date and Time of Phone Calls, and who You Spoke with. Hopefully things will go Well, and You will return to Work, but if it doesn't, You will need this Info. during the Hearings Process. I had Spinal Surgery in Jan. '05, and they told Me I would be back to Work 100% in 3-6 Months, and I ended up Totally Disabled, so Prepare for Both Scenarios. Also, Learn as much as You can about Your w/c State Rules and Regulations, the One thing they Hate to Deal with is an Educated Injured Worker!! My Best to You, and I Hope All Goes Well!!Wink

Failed Back Surgery, Chronic Pain, Totally Disabled.

Knowledge is Power, Especially in the World of w/c. Learn as Much as You can about Your States w/c Laws, and don't Fight Battles alone, They Use Attorney's, and so Should You!!

RE: upset
Hi there CopChick,

Welcome to our family. I have been very fortunate with my case. I credit that to my attorney and the fact that I do not have to deal with an adjuster or case manager. When an injured worker has an attornery the insurance company is not allowed to call them they must go through the attorney. That alone is worth the 25% that I pay her to keep my blood pressure and stress levels down. If I were you I would not listen to anyone that says anything about your case unless your lawyer tells you it is so. I agree with many of the others that have said you should learn your states laws and regulations regarding workman's comp you will be glad you did and document everything just like Limbo said.

Take care sweetie and again welcome.
Deb

copchick Wrote:As you can guess by my name I am a police officer. My husband is also a police officer. We work for the same city. I was injured on a domestic disturbance call. My anterior and posterior ligaments were completely torn in my right ankle. Funny though, the couple stopped fighting when 6 police cars and an ambulance were sent to the scene..LOL! This happened in December 2007. It has been 5 months since the injury. So far, no problems with WC. Until today. The specialist said that the ankle is not healing and wants to do Reconstructive Surgery. In about 4 months I'll be back to my old self again. Surgery is set for the 27th of this month.
My husband went to work today and was called in the Chief's office. The chief told him that his vacation was approved to be off for the two weeks post op to help me. BUT, WC isn't going to approve the surgery and wants a second opinion.
Ok, I understand wanting a second opinion. BUT NO ONE TOLD ME! Everyone else in the office area knew about this. Of course my hubby blew up and told them to speak to our attorney (which he called). My doctor said that no one has denied anything yet and that the surgery is still on until further notice.
I'm not one prone to tears, but I have hit my limit. I WANT to go back to work. I love my job. WC is saying that they just need another paper from my dr and that nothing has been denied. Yet, they openly told my chief something different. This is all new to me. I've been hurt several times, but nothing sever enough to be off of work for anymore than a couple of days.
Any advise on how to handle this? Oh, WC has not spoken to me one time. They have not made contact with me.
I am in Louisiana.
Thanks.

RE: upset
Hi - as you can see I am also a police officer. I am in Wisconsin and tore ligament, broke ankle in 2 places while walking in a ditch (twisted it) in August 2006. I have had two surgeries, the last September 2007. I am still on light duty (still going crazy - I'm not perpetually crazed I guess) and doctor believes I will never be 100% or be able to return to patrol. I keep telling him he's wrong/I'll prove him wrong, however it's been 4 months since I first told him "he's wrong" and there has been very little change since then. I am also gungho to return to the work that I love. But realizing as months go by that is less and less likely. I am 41 and have been a cop only 8 years. This is my 2nd career, and I gave up alot to do this job. It would be nice to speak to a female officer in same boat - and with an ankle injury to boot!! Please feel free to email me personally.
