RE: reactions to pain patches
My husband used them for a couple of months. Only 25mg and he's a big man. Couldn't stand the way they made him feel. It took a full month to get over the withdrawal from them. His PCP wanted to do it in patient. I hope Monster comes along. She really had a problem with them.

RE: reactions to pain patches
Is one able to cut the patches in two? Possibly a full dose is too much?

RE: reactions to pain patches
Lilly,
You can't cut the patches as then you wouldn't be getting the amount, or possibly to much, as directed by the Dr.

I loved the fentanyl patch, was the first thing to give me any relief and allowed me to sleep. But within 24 hours, I was puking my guts out...was dizzy, sweating, overly sleepy... and the list goes on. So my Dr took me off of them and put me on an anti-inflammatory (as if that has done anything, other than help me spend money that I can't afford to waste).

Then the recall came out and I had some of the recalled packages. Nine patches in all. They had a tiny slit in the covering that were allowing to much of the fentanyl to reach my system at once. I would be willing to try them again.

As for being careful not to get overly hot, they are talking about no more long hot baths or showers, no heating pads, no sitting directly in front of a floor heater and no sunbathing. If your body temp reaches a certain degree, it can cause your body to absorb the fentanyl to rapidly and cause you more trouble.

RE: reactions to pain patches
Fentanyl worked great for my pain! But, I also had problems with throwing up and low blood sugar. I don't understand about the low blood sugar, but the doc said that everyone is different. (DUH!)
He explained to me that the patches are generally for end of life pain, that they usually give them to people who have basically months to live, to make them comfortable. So, I was on them for about 4 days and couldn't handle it, too much vomiting, dizziness, and generally yuckiness. I hope you have better luck them. Smile

RE: reactions to pain patches
I have been on the 100mcg pr.Hr. for about 8 Mos. now, and they have Worked Great for Me. You don't have to Worry about Normal Heat, just don't go into a Hot Tub. My Morphine Usage due to My Pain was up to 200 mg. every 8 hrs., and My PM put Me on the Patch because it is absorbed through the Skin, and not the Liver, as Morphine! I have had Very Few Side Effects, I would say the Worst is the Dry Mouth. Best of Luck, I Hope they Work Well for You!!Wink

RE: reactions to pain patches
Do not cut the patch as You will get a overdose!
Two different dose patches were recalled for just that reason as they had cuts from manufacturing.
I was on the patch for a little while until I found how dangerous they could be around Heat and it really interfered with My life.
I will say that I have not found anything that works as well but to me the dangers overshadow the benefits.

RE: reactions to pain patches
I could not use them, they caused me to overdose after about 8 hours of having them on, even at the lowest dose. I used Avinza, and it worked well for me, but as limbo said, I was on ALOT!

The good news is,"You can get used to anything."
The bad news is,"You can get used to anything."
