RE: it just sucks!  just a bad day
Hi imsckofit...I am sorry that it took me so long to talk to you on this forum. I too understand how difficult it is when things change for you. I am a type A also, I can definitely relate. I have experienced the thoughts that everyone looks at me differently now than they did before. But the clue here is its just thoughts. My kids are older, I don't know how old your kids are but mine are all married with grand kids. I have come to understand that it isn't so much that they think I am weak now, their expectations of me has changed. They don't just expect MOM to do the cooking for all the holidays, and organize all the get togethers etc. They don't expect me to watch all the babies now and they definitely do not expect me to pick them up anytime. For me, it hurts. I was a mother, who was involved in my job, and their lives. Sleep wasn't something I did a lot of. My house is set up for their entertainment. We have a pool, hot tub, pool table, and everything else that you could think of. THey would have all their get togethers here and I would sponser it. I can't do it anymore. So I guess I said all this to say that you are right in your last post, it isn't that we are weak we are different and have to set a different pace than before. I had a very hard time when I got my first w/c. Now, it is ok, I am getting an electric one in a few weeks. For you see because of my pride I didn't do any shopping for my grand kids for christmas, I had my girls do it all. If I would just let go of the pride, then I could have built up more memories with my kids. However, because of my pride at the time, I lost an opportunity to have thoses memories. I think we have to focus on building memories in the future and not look to the past. And you know what ...it is ok. We are ok.

RE: it just sucks!  just a bad day
lol....yea, I do have a lot of toys...there is the ping pong table, the baby grand piano...did I tell you I use to play the piano...and so much more. Ihave a clarinet and a flute. I had a studio which I have already downsized but it supported 12 people for painting, scrapbooking, ceramics, embrodery (I have two commercial machines) and a machine for quilting. I use to own a ceramic shop so I have two large kilms and more molds than I will ever beable to move to Oregon. I am a craft nut. I have more framed oil painting that I have painted that I will ever know what to do with. Now my grand daughter is a painter also. She is taking lessons from my teacher. I am in the process of being certified in the Bill Alexander Wet on Wet oil painting technique. The craft room is my room, the other stuff is all my husbands and kids. But guess what I am down sizing preparing to move to Oregon..so the pool table and the baby grand was given to my youngest daughter who is staying in New Jersey. My grand daughter is taking piano lessons so this is great. As for the pool, I will really miss it because it is great exercise for a person with MS. For once you do not feel like you are just sticks. Your body floats without any pain and it is great. I have written a book again...sorry...i could talk about crafts all day. Jayne cooks, monster you have the beautiful flowers, and I have the crafts. What a combination.

Of course you are all welcome to my house. Any time, just let me know. I would love that.

No girl, you had the pool table which is what hooked me. I used to play semi pro and wanted to go pro and then all this happened. I play occasionally, but it kills my neck for days afterwards including the bad cervical headaches. If I could just have my neck back so that I could play consistently again I think I could live with the rest...

ROFL, you're being a Bad Boy again, LOL...Pool table doesn't have the action of the washing machine, so I will continue to play pool on the pool table and do LOTS of laundry in the meantime, LOL

I'm not quite sure how I managed to change this entire thread, but I apologize imsickofit. If nothing else I hope you will get a laugh out of it and it will brighten your day.

RE: it just sucks!  just a bad day
OMG - back to the washing machine and poor flippinout needs help with depression and how to deal with teens running over him because they feel he is a push over -

Well I guess he could just put the teens in the washer and let it run for a bit on spin and spin some sense into them ....... just kidding here.

Really flippin - you just got to stick to your guns and tell them NO and back it up and don't let them run over you. Driller says I am the softy because I love "baby" as he calls the 17yr old that graduates friday. Then in the next breath says that I won't let him grow up because I give him curfew. Go and figure. lol

However, I have never been the one to dispipline more than with a stern talking to with the youngest one because that can make him cry quicker than you can say jack rabbit. So I figure that does more good showing him how much he disappoints me and driller more than anything else can do. (Oh I will go and take his playstation and other game systems away from him and trust me he won't ask for them back until driller gives him the courage to do so.)

So what ever you do - you have to be consistant and stick to your guns on it - and if I take his game systems away from him - I take them all away from him - and it may be 2, 3, 4 weeks before he gets them back - same with the cable if I take away his remote - he may only get the one channel he can watch for a month - so heaven forbid he has it on a channel that he hates after a while ....... lol

If they get mean and abusive with you - then do what needs to be done - call the cops on them and charge them with domestic violence - teach them lessons the hard way if necessary. I will tell you one threat of that with my son and he never tried to raise his hand to me after he said he could take me because I was injured. Cause I told him flat out - you may be able to take me - but you will be in jail because of it and then what? he started thinking about that and decided he didn't like the alternative of that. Now with driller in the picture the past 3 yrs - he knows although he can take me - there is no way he can take driller as well and if he were to lay a hand on me - driller would knock him across the room in a heartbeat. So it really settled him down.

Don't get me wrong - we both love the kid with all our hearts - and he knows it - but we also don't put up with anything either. And I think that has helped alot. He knows that if one says no then the other sticks to what the other says.
