PM doc. threw me a curve ball
Just to give a brief recap.. I had four back proceedures, the last one was the implant of a scs.. That was back in Dec. 07.
Today the pm. doc. said he is going to request, mental pain management, if I thought that would help. I responded " I will try anything to improve my condition ". He told me it would be part pt and part mental training. The ic has nothing to gain from approving the appointments. And I mean nothing. My monitary benifits have ended and my medical for the injury is for life. My question is, Has anyone been through the mental part and if so, did it help? 8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom. |

RE: PM doc. threw me a curve ball
Hi AQA, I am going through it now. 8 hours a day, part excercising and part counseling. I think it has helped some. We have worked to find different methods to help reduce my pain. My Counselor is a good lady that keeps our hopes up and tries to help us with our depression. I found that one way to help me some is to use heat on my back. I have to lay on top of the heat with my legs lifted (like I was sitting in a chair but laying down). They put on relaxing music and I stay there for a while. Bad part is that once my back cools down the pain is back. But for that little while it helps a lot. At my point every minute without pain is a Godsend. Hope I answered your question.

RE: PM doc. threw me a curve ball
AQA, as you and many may know, pain works on and also from the Brain. When in a lot of pain, and for a lenght of time, the Brain continues to think it should stay there. This is called Mental Pain, and Management can help that. Now like me, I was given a Anti Depression Medication, to alter this process. It did take a little time to see results. being as positive as possibles does help that then work also. I had been on Pain Medications for almost 8 years. And I am no longer on any of them, as of this year now. I did a slow detox, very slow. Then complety off pain medications. Oh, sure I have bad days, but can now deal with them in a much better way. having some help in this field can result in a great benefit, and just think, what you learn you can share to some day help others. Sounds like a great tool that can help may with ending results....
