RE: need ur advice
robbie NOT if the doctor has taken you from work .... Doctors orders are what needs to be followed not what the employer wants unless the doctor agrees with the employer since they are the ones paying the bills .

RE: need ur advice
I also am injured with my dominant right hand. I was a phlebotomist. They tried everything to find for me to do one handed to get me back to work and they succeeded. They made a new position as a " waiting room monitor". This was discussed with ME and with my doctor at the office with my NCM. So they do also ask YOU if it is something you would like to do. I was not keen on just sitting there looking at people in a waiting room and watching how long they waited. If they waited more than 15 mins. I would have to go to the nurse and find out who the doctor was that they had and go back to the patient to give them a update of how much longer it would be.

Like i said in my other posts, i luckily got a good paying job offered to me within my restrictions. I am currently working now 40 hours a week making more money per hour than i did at the other job. I am currently in the middle of setting up a luncheon party for 200 people for this friday. That is part of my new job. It is much easier on my hand, but not what i enjoy doing in life, but gets me out into the working world.

If someone could try to tie their dominant hand behind their back and try to figure out what kind of job they could do, they would be amazed at how DIFFICULT it is to find some job to do that. It is not easy. My old employer even wanted me to answer the phones at work as a light duty job. That is even difficult to do. Especially if it was when i was still in the lab answering the phone, because whenever the phone rang it was for test results. So that would mean going onto the computer. Which i think needs 2 hands. So when it is a dominant hand injury, it is very difficult to find someone light duty work.

If the doctor does give you restrictions and your employer finds you work within them, you have to at least go in and try it. If not you could lose your wc benefits.

carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD.
1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10%
