Can I vent
Sorry guys it could be because I did not get any sleep last night because of the pain , but I'm feeling depressed. I know many of you will not find this a big deal, but I just picked up a paper and it was talking about the opening day of trout season. I have never missed an opening day, even when I was pregnant with my kids I would go out. I know maybe not the best judgement call, but my hubby and I live to trout fish. Now I'm sitting here thinking here is another thing my injury has taken from me. It is one of the things that have bonded my hubby and me together for so many years and now I won't be able to go. I don't want to mention it to him, because I think he hasn't thought about it and I don't want him to be depressed too. Thanks for listening. BA

Backache....I hear ya!! Boy, do I. Hubby and I also have bonded over a couple of activities that I can't do any longer. Or I should say.....SHOULDN'T!! LOL We both love the fishing here in northeast KS and we both loved to bowl together on a mixed league!! We were in the middle of a season (bowling) when I got injured. However, not that it was the same...this is what we did to help make it the two of us...still. At first, I would go and watch him bowl with our teammates. Then we dropped the mixed league so I watched him on a regular league for men. It's not the same....but it's something we could do as a couple and still have fun with it. I have tried to bowl once....didn't make the back much worse...but still not something I think I better sign up for right away!! Then there's the fishing!! We LOVE the bass fishing up here!!! It's great....when they're biting of course!! The first summer he just left me at home!! That didn't work very well so now he asks if I want to go. If I do he knows there are certain ponds that I can't go to simply because of the walking and location. Anyway, he takes a lawn chair and I sit and enjoy watching . I've also tried my hand at it. I just can't go out for a day of fishing and fish the entire day!! LOL I've made some changes in my casting so that I can be effective yet not over do it so that I can still function!! Sometimes it works....other times in retrospect it wasn't such a good idea!! The point I'm trying to make is that if you want, and can come up with a way, you can still enjoy this time with hubby.....it'll just be different. It seems like we're always the ones making the accomodations for our injuries...but if we didn't....we would have absolutely no life at all sometimes, right?
Try it!! It won't be the same....but you'll invent a new/different way to enjoy your husband!!! Hope this helps..... Punk  :0) "If I were any better....I'd only be half as good as you!!" |

RE: Can I vent
Well unfortunately we native fish, which means walking up little mountain streams. This is over logs, boulders and uneven ground, which I can't do, since sometimes I trip over daisies in the linoleum. Also I wouldn't be able to walk very far in hip boots and where we go there are to many snakes not to wear them. I guess he can just go with a friend or something, but I won't be able to. Sorry I was just feeling bad about the whole da** situation because if I would have had my surgery I would have been ready for opening day. Thanks for lending me your ear it helps to talk about it.

RE: Can I vent
Okay BA I can't wok anyway so I have decided that you guys can use me for trout bait, LMAO...I'll charge you by the day instead of by the hour so it will be cheaper on ya. All you have to do is find a great BIG bobber to attach me to and off I go floating away. Imagine how big a fish you could catch using me as bait, LOL...now if that vision didn't make you smile I don't know what will

RE: Can I vent
You made me smile Hun. Thank you so much. I always catch bigger fish anyway and he lies and says he caught them. He did catch Big Sam last year while I was at work. I wouldn't talk to him for days. He will tell you the story when you get here I'm sure.

RE: Can I vent
Backache, you can vent all you want, sometimes it helps just to be able to write it down. I know that I have several times found myself grieving the things that I used to do before being injured. I was an avid bowler like Punk. I was on leagues and went to tournaments, the whole nine yards. Now I can't even pick up a bowling ball. I have found that being able to listen to other people and maybe help them feel better that it helps me too. I can't wait to meet you at the castle, maybe we will have to put someone in your dungeon or something, hehe. I'm looking for a special rock to bring you for you collection. When my daughter was young, she had a rock box where she keep a collection of rocks that we found. I hope you cheer up soon, I know it's frustrating, especially as warmer weather starts up.
Take care Vickie |

RE: Can I vent
I know exactly how you feel. It is very depressing to think of things that you and hubby use to have fun doing. I also get those moments as in Oct. of last year, hubby asked me to go with him to get my motorcycle license. I took the course and passed. I was so thrilled that we did something together and took up something we could do on the weekends together. We went straight down the following weekend to a Harley shop and bought two brand new bikes.
We went on a few rides on the weekends, and then the cold weather came and we put the bikes away. I got injured in Jan. after. Just 4 months after we got involved in a hobby together. My bike has only 300 miles on it, and sits in the shed hubby built to store the bikes. My heart is broken now as i look at my bike, smell the new leather, and think about how bad my hand is that i cannot even use the throttle or turn my head well enough to trust myself to ride. I am hopeing every day that i get better. I know i must have disappointed hubby so much with my injury. Maybe there is something you can think of that you both like to do that you both can enjoy. I wish you all the best, and chin up. Hubby i am sure understands and if he is anything like my husband, he will still fish like my husband still rides. I know it will not be the same without you, but still encourage him to not give it up. He would appreciate you still thinking about the fun he enjoyed with you both doing it together. Good luck. carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |

RE: Can I vent
I have switched to dock or pond fishing, or from a boat. Even salmon fishing, I can set my lawncair in low water and cast from there. He has to help me get them in, because of the slickery parts. I love to fish and just sat the fisrt year out, now coming into 3rd year, I have just grabbed the reins and come up with ways that will work for me. I already had to give up hunting, and will be dammed if this is takin fishing too.
Sithie Is kinda like gardening, can't walk, or bend, or squat, so I just set my butt on the ground and scoot. Takes a hell of alot longer, but it ain't like I am busy, ya know? lmao The good news is,"You can get used to anything." The bad news is,"You can get used to anything." :-) Sithie |
