RE: two level spinal fusion ,now 6mos.
Hi, Slapsot,

Lilly is right, Voc Rehab is a joke especially for us older folks. I am 54 years old...my employer fired me after didn't want to meet my restrictions. I am out of work since 2006. I was sent to Voc Rehab the same year and was approved for re-training. They realized, it would be a waste of money trying to re-train a fifty some year old, so they recommended pention. W/c didn't like the idea and they hired a second Voc Rehab Firm and that's where I am now. They are trying desperatly to find me a transferable skill so they can kick me out of the w/c system. I don't know how it will end, but I know, even if I had no restrictions(can't use hands too much) nobody wants to hire an older person. I was working all my life accounting type of work and I have education for this, but can't do it anymore.
I also applied for SSDI but was turned down, so I appealed for re-consideration and still waiting on this one. You should apply for this and keep trying if they deny it. You may be lucky and get it at first try as it is easier to get if you are over 55.
In the meantime, you may try Voc Rehab and take advantage of it. Some people might get training in small business management if they have an idea what type of business to open. You may consider this . But don't get your hopes high...the truth is, at this age, the only way you will find employment with decent wage is only if you create it for yourself. And who knows, you may do it?

Good luck and please apply for that SSDI without any delay.
Kat

Take care, LillySmile

Injured worker, & tired of it all! I'm too old for games!!

A careless word may kindle strife, a cruel word may wreck a life, a timely word may level stress, and a loving word may heal and bless!
