RE: All lumbar injuries please help
I have been living with the arm pain since I wrote the original post. Now the pain is becoming a little more tolerable with the pain med and chiro, but when I'm just sitting or doing not much of anything my arm seems to jump. You know when you get that flutter thing under your eye and it keeps twitching no matter what you do. Well this is happening in my arm from shoulder down to my elbow. I'm really afraid because my left hand is always cooler than the right too. Being a nurse I'm pretty sure it's nerve the way it's acting, it definately isn't muscle pain because I would be able to tell the difference. My hand has pins and needles in it.

What's even more strange, is your Subject states Lumbar, when the arm would be coming from the Cervical Spine, like C3 - C4, or C4 - C5 area. The twicting could be Nerve, or also a possible part of the healing process going on. For we twitch also when healing. The muscles can contract some, and also apply a little pressure on a Nerve causing the spasm, coldness, and twitching. Heat before stretching and Ice afterwards. That is is you are allowed to perform the stretching.

backache, Bad Boy brings up my question. Did you injure your neck during your accident or since the accident? Have they checked your neck out at all?

RE: All lumbar injuries please help
When I first injured myself it shot a pinch across my entire lumbar area. Later on all the pain was left sided through the lumbar, hip, down the left leg. I would feel pain higher up at times, but wasn't worried about it and didn't report it because it wasn't severe like it ended up being. No they have not checked the cervical area. I think when I looked at the MRI I could see further up than the lumbar area, but I'll have to have someone show me again. I'm going to my PCP on Fri. and for the IME next Tues. What should I tell the IME Dr.?

RE: All lumbar injuries please help
Backache, here is some food for thought. You said, you had pain further up, yet you let it go, and said nothing, when you should speak up. You as a Nurse know this next part. When your pain level is higher in one area, yet you know the pain level is in another area, but slightly lower level, it will set ones mind to forget both, and mostly only think of the higher pain levels. Then as the high one decreases, wham, here comes the second pain level that we let go unnoticed. Even though it's common with us humans, it does happen. Explain in detail to your treating Doctor. And please do so, before it becomes to late to get it reported.

Think of this one. My arm was hurting close to my wrist - till I hit my thumb with a hammer on the other hand. Example in place, the thumb now hurts, and the arm doesn't. Common pain recepters.Cool > The Spiked Bull has spoken LOL

Thank you oh wise spike. I shall listen to your wisdom. You are right when the injury first happened the lumbar area was so bad I thought I would go crazy with the pain. Now the pain in my shoulder, arm and hand seem worse. I hope it stops there........

RE: All lumbar injuries please help
Backache,

Although my AP stated little finger/index finger triggering is related to original work injury for carpal tunnel/tendonytis and thumb triggering on both hands, IME docs both argued, it can't be as I stopped working prior to this condition, so w/c refuses to pay for any treatment or test. Although my claim is still open and I am still getting timeloss, I am without medical treatment for more than one year. Now I am in worst condition than prior to my surgeries. I have pain in both shoulders/arms, all fingers cramp up, wrists hurt and now to top it up, I have neck pain, too.

My new AP tells me, neck pain related to shoulder/hands/arms pain but I can't get treatment, not even for accepted conditions for carpal tunnel. I have lawyer but nothing is moving..right now we have second hearing coming up regarding two fingers only. I am so frustrated, I want to go and see a private doctor and find out what is really wrong with me, but my lawyer advised against it.

Be prepared to fight w/c, they will argue your new condition not work related. IME will say what w/c wants to hear, that's how it worked with me. IME doc(two), both said, triggering on some of fingers and arm/shoulder pain was my own doing and has nothing to do with original injury as I wasn't even working.

RE: All lumbar injuries please help
I hope I don't have to fight them, but I have a really good lawyer and he told me he will make them pay for anything going on in the back. I wouldn't even mind going up against them if I felt better, but I feel so drained at times its like someone opened a valve and let all of my energy escape. I'm sure once its spring I will feel better.
None of you will ever know how much I appreciate all of you and your wise words. You keep me fighting.

GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY AND OUR PRESIDENT!

RE: All lumbar injuries please help
backache Wrote:I have 2 bulging lumbar discs and a pinched nerve at L5 S1. All the pain since the beginning of my injury has been lumbar to left hip down left leg. The day before Christmas I woke up and had a terrible pinch in the middle of my back. Every day it would move up my back until now it has settled in my neck to my left shoulder down my left arm. It feels like a pinched nerve and is absolutely driving me crazy. I can't stand the pain at night and haven't slept much in a week. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so is it caused by the pinched lumbar nerve or could it be from the bulging discs? I have a Dr's appt. Friday. Thanks for any help in advance.
I agree you need a full MRI and a very good evaluation...unfortunately your thoughts about W/C seem to be true. Do you have an attorney? Good Luck and prayers, cocoland

RE: All lumbar injuries please help
BA - I agree with what our spiked wise one said Smile

When I go to the docs (ehich I don't really get to go to anymore) I liken it to stubbing your toe and then hitting your thumb with a hammer. Whichever one hurts worse wins. If you don't believe me try it sometime, I guarantee whichever one hurts worse you will feel and the other will just be a memory. It gets very frustrating when you have multiple injuries and one area is hurting so badly that you can move your neck almost normal because you aren't feeling the neck pain at that particular moment...But then the next day comes round and because you have moved your head/neck in a manner you know not to, it is now the dominant pain and you have forgotten about the other area.

I hope all that made sense, it drives me nuts at times trying to explain this to docs
