RE: im scared  whats a  fce
not all pain results in an injury but if you are injured during the process you can file an additional claim.
There have been a number of prior posts on this board that discuss the Functional Capacity Exam process.
Here one

you can use the "search" function at the top of this page to find all the discussions about an FCE

A fce = functional capacity exam. The exam is set up to see what you can and can not do physically. When I did mine it was based on lifting, pushing, pulling, walking, climbing a ladder, walking up and down stairs ect.ect... I am unfamilair with wether or not you are taking any pain medicine. If you are, I would not take it prior to the exam. I am sorry to say. I think everyone that had a fce was in pain after. They may monitor your heart rate while you are doing it. There was an individual watching me and constently asking if I was in pain. When the pain got to much for me the exam ended. I was told it would take about four hours. I only lasted for two. That happened about a year ago and I will probably be having another soon.

8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom.

RE: im scared  whats a  fce
FCE's, if you have an Attorney demand only a computer operated FCE. For one, your being constantly monitored by a computer, not some persons judgement, or wild guess, or have to worry about a person writing something down, that is untrue. I had prior FCE's done, the old style old fashion way, then I paid for the Computer Operated one. You talk about a big difference. Like night and day. medical has advanced some much over the years, so go for the best that is out there. So, set your goals high now, and say ok, you will perform an FCE if it is Computer Operated only. Stand firm on it, fight for it. This may be your one time, that will be most important to your outcome. Also, in writting, present the FCE place with a written letter, stating they are to provide you with a full copy of the FCE test results, and all, and any notes taken during the test, have them sign it, and make a copy for themself. Fight for the right test now, or suffer later. Medical studies shown, where they took several PT people to perform an FCE on a person. The results were terrible, for each person had different results. The omputer operated one, will give one true result.

Sweet...I think I saved this site from a thread from the old forum. I found it interesting. Don't remember who posted it.

RE: im scared  whats a  fce
I think my FCE was the computerized one and really it was a lot easier than what they say. Now what they don't tell you is that if you are taking anti-depressants for pain controll is that you also need to be weaned off them prior to the test as well. I think I had about 3 weeks to get weaned off mine which was really a short time period.

So I spent the day dealing with a migraine, bp was up because of migraine, but not high, you can take bp med and other necessary meds day of test - such as diabetic meds, thyroid meds, etc.

Things like that - that you body needs you can take. So yes it is safe to say you will start the test off in some pain as you can't take your pain meds the day of the FCE and in some cases you can't take the anti-depressants up to a week prior to the test to make sure they are out of your system. (this was per my doctor - I think I had 3 days off them prior to the test)

If your heart rate gets to high after any test - they stop the tests until your heart rate comes back down to normal level. They are also suppose to note any reason why you are unable to finsih any of the tests or if you finish a test and have to rest between the test - i.e. need to walk off numbness in the legs after being in the squat position.

Some places test more thoroughly than others - mine was only 15 pages long where as others like badboy had a much more indebt report. Some of the tests I didn't do like climb ladders - probably because my heart rate would have spike clear up there - and the kneeling because of the squatting and having to walk off the numbness afterwards. So in some cases it may be up to the doctors on what tests they do or the IC on what tests they want done. Mine lasted about 2 1/2 hours and they told me to expect at least 4 hours.
