RE: Cut off payments...no income
In addition to what 1171 posted, does she have school age children? If so, have her contact her local school's administration office and ask if they have a "homeless" program. This is a federally funded assistance program for families with children in school. I believe it may be part of the "no child left behind" act.

Let Go, and Let God......

RE: Cut off payments...no income
Hi cms i am very sorry that you and your daughter are going thru the w/c nightmare. I myself am going thru the same exact thing as your daughter. I been cut off from w/c checks for 10 months now and i know what she is going thru. Depression has become like a friend of mine now, like alot of us here. The ic just decided to cut me off even with medical proof that i have a back injury. Why you might ask ? Simple because they can, period. And there is nothing we can do about it except bring it to the WCB for a hearing. You see the W/C laws are set up in favor of the IC not the injured workers. The ic is just following the laws that allow them to get away with this. It's a upside down world we are guilty until proven Innocent. Good luck and listen to the others get that emergency hearing. I have had two and now i am just waiting for that decision in the mail. Hopefully it will come before my eviction does

Please contact your local United Way Chapter.

United Way funds area agencies that assist with rent, utilities, food and other areas of needs.

Also Community Action Programs are nation wide and has programs in place to assist families and individuals.

How did your search for assistance go last week?

Hi Bummer, thanks for asking well i called Catholic charities and they said they would call back within 3 days have not heard back from them yet. I went to social services today spent 5 hours there. I applied for everything and now have two more appointments set up one is to show all my proof Rent utility's etc.... And the other is for a doctors appointment. I just hope and pray that these city docs are not like the IME's that the ic sends us to. I will bring all my medical reports with me but who knows i will keep you informed. One thing i seen that is a problem is the appointment is the same day as my SSDI phone appointment. I will call the city doc in the morning to see if i can change the day so i don't miss the SSDI appointment. I been waiting weeks for that. Hope all is going okay with you ....Tony

Is your lawyer a cert workers comp lawyer?

WC can and does terrible things to people. There are no ramifications that I know of, that one can file to repremand them (sadly). Most everyone here has had the same or similar circumstances re:WC tactics.
Check back...as there are extremely knowledgable people here...and once they answer, you may be more enlightened.
Prayers for you & daughter are going up! LillySmile

RE: Cut off payments...no income
First of all, thank you all for your input and advice. I have sent E-mails to the Attorney Generals office in hopes of getting some exposure for this group. Do any of you have any advice on setting up an advocacy group? I think we should all do something. After all, there is power in numbers. We are taxpayers and voters, and should not be treated with less respect that those who are incarcerated and have more benefits than some of us do. We do not live in a third world country and should not be homeless, hungry and deprived of entitlements that ensure us of a sense of human dignity and a minimal standard of living. Some of us are being deprived quality of life and dignity and are nothing more than numbers in a computer program that indicate a liability to an insurance carrier. If any of you want to consider starting an advocacy group, get organized and confront the state and local governments, insurance carriers and WC in general, and possibly take our stories to the media, please let me know. I'm ready!

RE: Cut off payments...no income
I was terminated after my 2nd injury. I receive no WC payments because TN is an at will state. I am in my 2nd year and am just now fixing to receive surgery. I have an Atty and he and I have had are bouts. The corp I was working for is large and have been fined by the labor board for not paying my medical bills. WC is a terrible cycle once you get into it. My credit has been ruined and my life on hold. And the path continues because the employer will do what he wants at the pace he wants. There is no compliance on time for them. Not to mention the worry of it all and it is made more fun by terrible pain from the imjuries that are not being treated in a timely manner and being made worse because the injuries are healing wrongs due to time.

RE: Cut off payments...no income
CSM - I worked for the same company your daughter did. I worked in the tire shop, changing tires and such on a daily basis. The company she and I are fighting is self insured and unfortunately they will continue to play these games. I have been in the system for 3 1/2 years now and they refused to pay for quite some time. Once they did start they discontinued the pay with no warning whta so ever. I wish I had better advice to give you but I now know this company has no regards for their employess whatso ever and the all mighty dollar rules all. The man who started this company would roll over in his grave if he new how his employess...injured or otherwise...are now treated. He was a kind man from everything I have read about him, but the company he created has now become a frankenstein of sorts, not only running local businesses into the ground but also their employees. I wish your daughter luck and if you would like to talk please feel free to PM me.

BTW - I have two herniated discs in my neck along with a spinal cord injury in the neck that is accumulating fluid, three bulging discs in my lower back, my left knee is torn in at least two places and the knee cap is not tracking correctly, both hips are now giving me problems as well as my sacro illeac. I have had nothing to date other than 'band aid' treatment ... so you can see we must do our best to be aggressive with this company otherwise one problem aggravates another until you wind up in much worse shape than you were in the beginning. With this IC company they will do their best to wait you out so that you have no choice bu to settle. I'm really sorry to give you bad news but it sounds as if her case has gone a lot like mine...I am now filing for help from the state to see if I can at least get some kind of medical treatment so that I can get back to work.

Please click the link below to help provide food for homeless animals. It's free and only takes a second of your time! Thanks Smile
