RE: Driving and leg/nerve pain
BK, yes I do. My damage is L5-S1. I have found that it also get bad when I sit on the couch, so I raised my couch 4 inches. that way my knees would be below my waist. As far as the truck goes, I have not yet found away to deal with it.
8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom. |

RE: Driving and leg/nerve pain
Bummer -
Yes I do, but all I can tell you is this - if you have to drive long distances make sure someone is with you or you take into consideration breaks so that you can get out and move around some - say for about 10 minutes. I have been lucky most of my nerve pain and weakness has been in my left leg - but occasionally my right foot will twitch and I can always tell and that is when I go to hit the brakes for some reason - so give yourself plenty of room for stopping in case something like that happens. Other than that - it's nothing to see me moving my butt around in the seat to try and get more comfortable with my back as well, as sometimes the nerve pain can radiate from there. |

RE: Driving and leg/nerve pain
My leg/nerve pain is mostly on the right side and I have problems with S1/L5 & L5/L4.
I find myself driving more with the cruise control on. It sounds as if positioning increases the leg/nerve pain for myself and others. What worries me is when the weakness starts and I am driving. |

RE: Driving and leg/nerve pain
Yes by all means it occurs. I have had to learn to stop and take breaks to walk around. The worst for me was while I was on a 4 hour plane ride. The pain pills helped but not completely.

RE: Driving and leg/nerve pain
bummer
Driller has done that for years on long distance - even if it is to the next town over he will set the cruise control. His is not so much from nerve pain - but from when he was in the Army back in the 70's and he broke his right foot and it didn't heal. He has a non-union fracture. He also learned to brake with his left foot. |

RE: Driving and leg/nerve pain
In my husband's truck the seat sits up higher from the floor and I don't have as much trouble with leg/nerve pain.
This is why I question if the positioning while driving increases leg/nerve pain. I am an independent soul and don't want to have a driver. |

RE: Driving and leg/nerve pain
Do you drive an automatic or standard shitf? I can no longer drive the Jeep since it is a stick shift. I also have to stop and stretch at least every hour sometimes more when we go anywhere. I found if I use a lumbar roll it helps.
GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY AND OUR PRESIDENT! |

RE: Driving and leg/nerve pain
I drive a mini-van and it has an automataic and so is my husband's truck.
Any chance you can trade your vehicle for an automatic. |
