Hey guys, I have been on Celebrex for a week now for the swelling and joint aches. It is the first time taking anything on a regular basis for me ( twice daily), so I am unsure of side affects and all that stuff. It seems to be working though, but it is too soon to really tell. Have any of you been on Celebrex. Good or bad results?.

RE: Anyone for Celebrex?
I loved it, and it was easy on my stomach. Doctor took me off after 3 months because it is not recommended for long term use. Now I use a combination of prilosec and relafen, and that also works very well for inflamation and pain.

RE: Anyone for Celebrex?
Hi Bothknees:
I was on Celebrex and Flexeril for 5 months, and didn't get much relief. I was then on Indocin Sr, Cymbalta and Klonopin and that combo helped alot, but then the doctor switched the Indocin SR to Tolmetin Sodium due to being on it for several months, it works ok so far, but it's still new for me. I have been having more back spasms/cramps and the Klonopin and Cymbalta may need to be changed, since that what I use them for. I go for a consult with a chronic pain consultant about my meds in a few weeks. I go next Friday for an SI joint injection under flouroscope, my doctor gave me a script for 1 tablet of Xanax to take before the procedure, I hope it helps. Remember that each person's body reacts differantly to medications, you may bet great relief from the Celebrex, but I do know that they warn about using it for long term. Good luck I hope it works for you. Take care Vickie |

RE: Anyone for Celebrex?
From the celebrex site:
"When taking CELEBREX, use the lowest dose possible for the shortest time based on your treatment goals. Remember, not all medicines work the same for everyone. And your needs can change over time. Your doctor can help determine the correct dosage and length of treatment for you". If my doctor would allow it, I would prefer to go back on Celebrex. I take several medications, so I have to listen to my doctor. Everyone is different. Let Go, and Let God...... |

RE: Anyone for Celebrex?
Stiffnecked:
I received the information about not using Celebrex long term from my doctor. Below is part of an article from WEB MD, explaining the FDA recommendations. There are many other medical sites that warn about the long term effects of this and other medicines. ------------------------------------------------------------- FDA Recommends Limited Use of Celebrex, Bextra. Agency Also Advises Consumers on Strict Use of Over-the-Counter Pain Relievers WebMD Medical NewsDec. 23, 2004 -- The FDA is issuing a public health advisory concerning the use of anti-inflammatory pain relievers, including the Cox-2 inhibitors Celebrex and Bextra, and over-the-counter medications. The advisory includes a recommendation that Cox-2 drug use should be limited to high-risk patients. Recently released data show that Cox-2 inhibitors (Vioxx, Celebrex, and Bextra) may be associated with an increased risk of heart attack and stroke, says the FDA. They add this risk is greatest when these drugs are used for long periods of time or in very high-risk situations, such as immediately after heart surgery. Preliminary results from a long-term clinical trial (up to three years) show that long-term use of traditional anti-inflammatory drugs, such as naproxen (sold as Aleve, Anaprox, Naprosyn, and Naprelan), may also be associated with heart attacks. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Your more than welcome to search Celebrex's warning yourself if you would like. Take care Vickie |

RE: Anyone for Celebrex?
I was on the stuff for about a week and a half when I had to stop due to side effects. I broke out in a rash on my torso...I stopped immediately since the last time that happened with a medicine I actually swelled up big time as well. Took well over a month to come back down to normal............and then had to deal with the after effects of huge wrinkles on my face until everything settled down. In one week I went from a good looking 30 yr old to a 100 year old................something. God knows. Scared the bejesus out of me though. I was told Celebrex would have done the same thing if I had kept on taking it.
Other than that I know the risks of heart attack and stroke are not nice to know about. |

RE: Anyone for Celebrex?
I have been on celebrex, mobic, vioxx - other than vioxx that worked for about a month - none of them really worked on the pain. Most of these type of drugs are used for arthritis although doctors do hope that they help with chronic pain has well but if it's not of arthritic type of pain then it won't help much at all.
In my case my pain was from the bone and spasms - not arthritis - so it didn't help at all. |

RE: Anyone for Celebrex?
Hi.
I've been on Celebrex for a couple of years 2 x a day . I was on it several years ago, and had a heart attack....but I doubt it had anything to do with my circumstance as I had a bad valve and many clogged arteries. I really cannot tell if it's doing anything, as i haven't been off it. It is known to be very hard on the stomach....but I am not having a problem with that. It does effect my coumadin levels...but I have had my coumadin amount adjusted to compensate for the celebrex. I do know that some people can take it, while others cannot. I hope it does you well, and gives you some relief. Call the MD immediately if you experience any of the known side effects. Take care, Lilly
