scared
I only have a second to post this because I have to leave to go to the appt. Im scared out of my mind. I would love to go back to work, believe me I do. Just not for the company I work for. Today could be the day that its decided that I return to work which scares me. Look what happened last time and that was 4 months post op. Im not even 2 months post op yet. Im sure the dr wont totally open up the use of my arm today because ive been on no use of arm since January. Im not even lifting any type of weight at PT yet. Plus im having pain and ROM issues. IM just afraid that the company is gonna yank me off leave today, since its the last day of it, and force me back to hell.

please keep me in your thoughts today that this doesnt happen. I need to get better.

Thanks

RE: scared
I'm with you here, I do think you can file for extended leave and have the Doctor fill it out. Also, I would think the Doctor would rather see you perform PT before sent back to work, even if PT and work are together. Hang in there.

Rolleyes RE: scared
I would think the Dr. might loosen your restrictions a bit, but not release you back to work yet. Don't know that for sure, but that's what I would tend to be thinking. If you've not been doing anything with it yet, then it would be next to return to work at this point. Maybe in another month or so. Just my opinion. If you're having issues with pain and ROM then I'm sure if the PT knows this (and I'm sure they do, surely you communicate with them) then the Dr. will be made aware. They've sent their notes, I'm sure. That is, if you have told them that you have a follow-up today. If he's got all of their information then he'll do what's best for you. If he's any kind of Dr. at all then I'm guessing he's not going to let the company dictate when you return to work and such. At least he shouldn't! To me, that's criminal!! LOL It's not...it's just shows that he doesn't have a back bone and is able to tell them what's what!
Now, if you don't want to go back to work for that company that's fine. BUT I must tell you that you should be looking for other suitable employment. Nobody has said that you have to go back. It (to me) would be adviseable for you to do your light duty and stuff with this employer and be looking for another job while doing that. Know what I mean? That way, you can keep your benefits and still be looking for a way out with little or no lapse in insurance and stuff like that. WC will continue to pay for whatever it is they've been paying if you change jobs. Your company won't pay what they've been paying, obviously. Your best bet is to begin searching for jobs where ever it is you want to work and then go from there. Be well aware that a new employer won't want to hire you while you're still on leave...but by the end when you know you'll be going back and released from the Dr. it will be ok. Just set it up so that you'd be starting the day or two after your appointment when you'll be released. I would guess that you can do this while you're still under a few restricitons, but not many as most employers don't want to have to mess with accomodating injuries that aren't their responsibility!! Now, if you have permanent restrictions then they'll just have to handle it (and so will you) as a handicap...nothing more, nothing less.
Hope this helps!! Good luck and I hope things go well for you!

RE: scared
Let me say this, I LOVE MY DR.

He released me to work 1 week post op with the following restrictions: no use of right arm til next appt which was today. The company I work for wouldnt allow me to return to work with that restriction. So guess what restriction I received today on my work note?

NO USE OF RIGHT ARM UNTIL NEXT APPT 6-8 WEEKS FROM NOW Smile

On his note it did state in bold print, IF LIMITED DUTY WITH STRICT ADHERENCE TO THE ABOVE IS NOT AVAILABLE, AS DETERMINED BY EMPLOYER, THEN PATIENT MUST BE OFF WORK UNTIL NEXT APPOINTMENT.

So I called my boss and told him that I still dont have use of arm, and he told me that he doesnt want me back to work until im 100% even if it takes a yr. He said to get a letter from HR stating that Im to be off work until no restrictions are present Smile

He said the next 6 weeks of my PT is the most crucial out of all of it, these next 6 weeks will determine what ROM I have and what ROM Ive lost. EVen today he still insists that I will have lost some ROM but still isnt sure to what extent. My shoulder is extremely stiff, which he is concerned with. Hes very pissed off at the PT place and insisted that I change NOW. He doesnt feel that they are doing a good job at all. He also said NO more stim machine and I was very lucky they didnt rip the anchors out with it. Hes pissed that the muscles across the right side of my chest are severly strained because of last weeks incident and he said the pain from that should last about 2 weeks or so. He also said that I may have to deal with some pain in the shoulder during weather changes, and that this may not go away. I mentioned to him that days like today really are hard on me because of the rain and that I felt the weather changing without even checking the forecast. <sigh> I was hoping that would go away, I live in Michigan, and the weather is not consistant.

This dr is so nice. He even said he was going to check to see if his office hand any one armed work for me to help get some extra $$$. Geena adored him, and thought he was cute. Right in front of him she says "Mommy, your dr is cuteeee, will he be my new daddy?" I nearly peed my pants I was so embarassed. Kids, gotta love em. lol

Well, I guess once again I was worried for nothing. Next appt is June 6th, by that time I will have exhausted all sick time and have NO income. Hopefully, I will have found a new job by then and will be back to work some place.
